some pictures and a story of my first deer/big game animal

k the deer huntin story
went up opening weekend so its four point or better for deer but we went up to shoot some grouse anyways after seein like nothing for grouse and making my friends sidekick undriveable we decided to scout some new area with my buddies old man fortunaly im the only one with a rifle so im shootin bucks , anyways get the new area and were only seein does then we come round the corner and i say stop cuase i see a doe 20ft away then i see buck so as im climbing out of the truck my buddies got the binos and is countin tines i see the massive buck and kyle and his dad are sayin shoot shoot i quickly count one side and boom shoot at the thing he starts runnin hes bout (exactly) 240 steps from where im standing wrap the sling round my arm to get a steadier shot wait for it to walk out from behind a tree then bang my buddies says he dropped. we get too where the spot where it dropt and start looking around and im starting to think i missed caused we looked for a while then my buddies dad yells and starts dooin the chainsaw dance me and my buddy are like what the frick are u doin then we see the buck i we start yellin doin a wardance .


shot it with a mossberg atr100 in 30-06 with a 165 grn nosler accubond propelled by 50.5 grns of imr4064

ya your right on it being a young deer some of the more experianced guys i hunt with figured it was 3-4 yrs. havent scored it but the taxi said it looks like low 160s

I was in that exact spot this past november during the last week of mulie season. I walked the whole side of that creek/swamp chain behind that spot you hung it and cooked breakfast. Funny thing is spent a day and a half in there and never saw a track in fresh snow. Guess I should have looked around a little more. haha. Crazy coincedence.

Helluva deer, leave the ''first deer'' out of it, just a beauty buck by anyone's standards. The trouble is now you have to beat that, and that's a high benchmark to set out of the gate.... :D
