Anyone out there have a Bavarian Mountain Hound? Not sure if there are many in Canada.Nice hounds to have, they don't bay, and they are awsome scent hounds.Mine found his first moose at 8 months old.I will try to post a picture of him. He is almost a year old now.

I've got a five month old pup, and I've been taking him on artificial blood trail for a couple of months now. He is doing very well. I got him beginning of October from Europe. He's pure breed, great pedigree, too.
I know of another two or three of these in BC, but they are very rare around here. A whole different story in Europe, many hunters use this breed for tracking wounded deer and elk.
I am thinking of bringing one more probably next summer.

I have been investigating getting one as well, I can only have a total of three dogs here in Vancouver and already have two superb Rottweilers and I can really use a blood trailer. I would greatly appreciate any info. on these and how to obtain one in BC from any person here who can assist.

Brambles hunts in my home territory and a good dog of this type there will, as here on the "BC jungle" help a lot in finding the deer/Elk one shoots before they sour or a bear gets on it. A friend of mine lost a fine 6x6 back in the '70s when he could not find it until the next morning and it was a warm season opener and the animal soured...he was a European and told me then about the uses of such dogs.

I have been looking at the Deutche Draathaar and Kurtzhaars and got some excellent info. on these from Dutchie some time ago, but, I am really more interested in these more specialized dogs. So, ??????

He'll get to about 22" at the shoulder, and between 70 and 80lb. The dark face is called "mask" and it is one of the characteristics for this breed. And yup, the wrinkly cute face will stretch some more while growing up.

Before I made up my mind, I did a lot of research and in the spring I was deciding between the German Shorthair pointer, the Vizsla and the Weimaraner. But since I do not hunt for birds (yet?), I realized a retriever was not the right type of dog for me. And while in Europe this summer I met a hunter with a 9 month old bavarian... and she imperessed me. So I had mine brought over from Europe at the beginning of October, and I know I made the right choice.

Slavo, your dog is a beauty, do you live in bc?My bavarian's name is Ammo, we imported him from england. He will be one year old on January 16th. He is a real nice dog. He found a moose at 8 months, and then i had a chance at one more live track, he was finding spots of blood the size of a dime, even smaller every 60 to 70 yards, unbelievable nose on these guys. They are very loyal to thier owners too. I am really enjoying mine. They are very easy dogs to spoil, because they have the cutest personalities. I will get my son to help me post some photo's of mine.
