IF your not likely to use one once your home I'd rent. Call it a test drive, if you like that much buy one when you get home for the next trip!!

Another vote for renting if its only going to be used for the sheep hunt.
Anyway of writing it off as a business expense??;)

One more vote for renting, th costs for purchase and then the plans if you buy are far out weighed by renting if you only use it once or twice a year.

The technology changes so quick, rental is the only way.

Check out a couple of websites. They send one to you Fedex ready to go.

$20/ day plus air time. or is it included ?
You might have to find one on your way through the north country (FSJ or PG ?) Not much demand in southern BC.

I used to work for Infosat in Coquitlam.

Buying means you pay $2000 for a phone.

If you only use it once a year, then you're paying about $150 each year for a prepaid card that expires after 30 days. If you want to keep it active, then it's $30/month plus airtime at around $2 per minute.

This is all for Iridium stuff, MSAT is cheaper but there's no way you want to carry it on your back.

They will rent you the stuff too. Of course, it's far cheaper to rent if you only use it once a year. When comparing prices, remember that renting includes all the accessories, spare battery, car charger, car antenna, and a pelican case that keeps all this stuff dry.

(I might be a little out of date with the prices.)

I've rented from Hello Anywhere the past two years. Going on memory here but it cost around $240 (14 days)including 20 mins of air time. They courier it right to you. Had pretty good service from them but last year they accused me of damaging the phone which I am POSITIVE that I did not. Isolated incident?? I hope so.
1-800-helloanywhere.
They've got a website as well.

I looked into one last year through telus. I think the prices were $300 per month or $225. for two weeks. Not sure about air time, so its seems a little cheaper than the outfitter.

You can rent them from Deakin eqpt in Vancouver too.

I think it's $150 a week or $300 a month.

They have a website, just google Deakin Equipment.

I guess it depends on how many Sheep you intend on calling...

Depending oh how much your gonna use it I would look into buying. I've seen them for as low as 800, and air time is 1.00 a minute, if your gonna use it 2-3 times, or for when your in the back country, but not way back its good insurance for a broken leg.
