A Few Bird hunts from this year.

Well overall I didn't get to hunt as much as I would have liked to this year. The times I did get out I didn't have the best of luck, but we still had a good time. My girlfriend brought home a cockerpoo named Rusty this spring and he really showed interest in grouse so i worked with him a bit and he really surprised me so far. He didn't find and flush all the birds this year but he did flush most of them. He did however retrieve every bird i shot, even a couple I didn't even think I hit, or they were hit very poorly. Worth his weight in gold in that respect. I had forgotten how enjoyable it is to hunt over a young dog. The birds weren't overly abundant for me this year but we made out ok.

This was the 20th of Sept. We got a good dump of snow and 3 ruffies, one solid double and a late flushing single that Rusty tracked a good 50yrds down a draw. Never would have recovered it otherwise.

Here Rusty figured there just had to be some blues down the bluff and so I followed but we came back without a feather. Just a bunch of cardio and fresh air.

One of these ruffies was the most memorable retrieve of the fall. I was searching for the bird after the shot where I swore I saw it land and rusty came bounding back with it from the middle of a bogg we were hunting.

Not your typical bird dog, but the most important part is you got out shot some birds and had fun.

Oh no he is a savage little bugger:) One birds was flapping it's wings and pecking at him as he carried it, he dropped it, grabbed it by the head and wrung its neck, then continued on to me. :)
