hello everyone, not sure where to start
i'm new to hunting & looking for a reliable 30 06 rifle (prefer wood) no preference as to action (too new to have a preference - any suggestions?) for hunting deer & moose. I'd like something affordable ($500 & under if possible) what should i look for?

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

thanks

I my self like Ruger tang safeties. I curently have 3, 257 Roberts, 30-06 and my custom 338-06.

You picked a good caliber to start off with. Now head out to a few gun stores and try a few and see what fits you best.

Not sure where you live, but Wanstalls in Maple Ridge is selling new Savage Edge rifles in several different calibers. They come with bore sighted 3x9 scopes. I think before tax they're around $350. I'm going to pick up either a .270 or 30-06 as an xmas present to myself. It will be my first hunting rifle, hopefully I can break it in on a muley next season. Actually I think they have a web site, they might ship product.

Stick to bolt actions, reliable, easy to clean, and top accuracy...Savage makes a good, inexpensive, and accurate bolt action rifle...
