So the wife and I go to the cabin and find that we have an unwelcomed guest a freakin pac rat! So we do the right they and and set traps,however the little f---er nows magic and gets away,set posion still he lives.So I go back the next weekend armed with fresh rasins and peanut butter,reset the traps and BINGO!!!!! When I hear the trap go off I dash over to see my prize and the little bugger is tring to bench press the trap spring, and boom he's out and running across the cabin floor,well it turns out that having the trap screwed to a 2ft longf 2x4 is kinda handy as I was able to smash his dirty pacrat skull with the trap HA ha ha who.s laughin now you dirty RAT!!!!! Well I relay this story to a friend up at the cabin and he replies with a joke--3 mice are in the bar drinking beers,and they have had just enough to start feeling tough the 1st mouse says you know at my house they are not to happy to have me around so they put out poison to kill me but that crap don't bother my I just eat it and crap it out,That don't bother me at all.The2nd mouse says ya well at my house they don't want me around either and they put out traps with cheese in them and you know that I love cheese, so i eat the cheese and quickly flip over onto my back and when the trap slams down I grab that bar and I do bench presses with it until im board then I throw it aside,that crap dont bother me none. The 3rd mouse dosn't say a thing but downs his beer and turns away throwing this coat over his shoulder and starts to walk out, the otheer mice say he whats wrong with you dude where you going? and the 3rd mouse turns and says to them "I'm going home to screw the cat!"

Pack Rats are clever little effers, for sure. We had one move into the floor of our trailer and had issues with it for a month! Poison, rat-traps, the cat, none of it worked until we bought a live trap, set up a little 'tunnel' where he was trying to get into the house constantly and slathered the trap with peanut butter.

Less than five minutes after constructing all this, we had him and a .22 put a right quick end to him after a month of keeping me wide awake, chewing on the side of the furnace vent right under my floor. LOL I have quite the hate-on for them things.

we had a rat problem at the cabin on van island.

ended up using some fine copper wire to lash and then solder some finishing nails to the bar on the rat trap... he couldnt get away after that

Pack rats LOVE to run in tubes......A 6 foot chunk of 6" stove pipe with a big old rat trap, or even a rusty old leghold inside, will get them every time....They get in the tubes and just run flat out...

Build your own "Electric Stool" if you have access to 110V.

Measure the distance between the floor and a handy convenience outlet. Get a piece of 1X4 that's a few inches longer, and attach an old piece of chord with a plug-in, still attached, through a hole in the board. Bond the plug to the board, with the two wires coming out the hole of the opposite side. Attach a base plate to that 1x4 - another piece of 1X4, so you've got an "L" shaped thing with a piece of zip chord coming out of a hole on the front. Straighten out a cup hook to the shape of an "L", instead of a "C". Screw that into the upright 1X4, and wrap one of the bared zip chord leads to it before tightening it down.
Take a break - have a beer or a smoke or whatever. Examine your handywork. Check for elevation. The thing should sit right on the floor and a gentle push should put the plug right into the 110V socket. But don't do it yet - unless you've remembered to trip the breaker for that socket.
Bring the other wire down to the baseplate and strip off the insulation so that you have about 3-4 inches of bare strands. Cut a piece of aluminum window screening to fit nicely over the top of the baseplate.
Spread out the strands of bare wire over the base a bit and staple down the window screening over the strands to make a snug fit.
Cut a slice of apple and hook it on good to the "L" cup hook.
Plug it in to the outlet and turn it on.
When Mr. Pac Rat steps up to get "his" piece of apple the lights might just go out! Haahaa...............Now just clean up the mess and have another beer. Word of caution: Adult supervision may be insufficient. Lol.

Some Guiness was spilt on the barroom floor,
when the pub was shut for the night;
then out of his hole crept a wee brown mouse,
and he stood in the pale moonlight.

He lapped up the frothy brew on the floor,
then back on his haunches he sat;
and all night long you could hear him roar,
BRING ON that God'damn Cat!

I hate pack rats to no end I had one get inside my truck it caused me two days work to fix the main harness wiring under my dash.

I finally got him I grabbed him around his waist when he was in my glove compartment.

I did go to Cranbrook to get some sticky board and 4 rat traps but I caught him be for I had to set the traps out.

He tried bitting me he could not because I was holding him behind his shoulder..

This is one of his last nests this pack rat would ever build ,my heater fan with used outhouse toilet paper and old mans beard.

Thanks for that photo Wayne! Actually as I look at it, a tear comes to my eye. For knowing how nasty they are, yet they are quite cute and have some sort of redeeming quality, as only a mother could appreciate I'd say.

Too Funny...

With the snow falling late this year the mice have been terrible! Little buggers have moved into the office out at work. They chewed up my coveralls to make a nest. They sampled every instant noodle soup bowl I had (all 6 of them for those late nights) Orkin man was at our main plant so I grabbed a box of those sticky pads from him and set up a defensive line around the mcc and the kitchen. Caught one of the *******s right away but I got a booner running around. he landed on one of the pads and tore hiself off only to walk on another right beside it! I don't know how he did it but he got off that one too. I have a new miniture fur coat about 1.25"x1.5". I think i'll have him mounted if we get him:-D

We were up for a moose hunt at my buddies cabin one year and the pack rats had moved in. As soon as you put the lanterns out at night the rats would start running. They were driving us nuts after the third night so buddy says he's going to start shooting them. Sure enough, 10 minutes after the lights were out one was running across the floor. BINK.... on comes the mag lite and lights him up. He stops and stares at the light and the next thing I know.. BOOM ... and the rat disappears! .357 mag medicine! Shit, I couldn't hear properly for a day. Took care of the rat problem, the bullet went into the log wall and there was just a bit of a mess to clean up in the morning. Got the point across though. No more rats for the duration of the trip. Probably moved in again 5 minutes after we left though.

Had a huge problem with rats at my old place. Luckily never got into my suite, but had great fun playing target practice with the pellet guns :D

Since I built a Bear box around the trash cans, the cats don't have access to the easy hunting, and the wood shed rat has a cat free zone around the grocery supply now attached to the rats multi-plex dwelling (woodshed).
What have I done, took from the bear and gave to the rat, duh!
Well in the spirit of giving to the rat I continued, by adding a pool with a peanut butter rope swing, but no latter to get out, little buggers don't dread water for too long, that or I'm a lazy lifeguard.
