I have been busted couple times this season by shifting wind. I was wondering if it is strictly Does that make the sound or will bucks do the same. I have seen Does do it never bucks.
Bucks will do it as well.
especially younger bucks. Some of those old smart 150 160 whitetails just duck their heads and skip out.

I know that feeling well as I've had a huge whitetail do that to me.

Snorting and grunting are two different sounds. Are you sure he was snorting?

LOL Nothing more frustrating than hearing that. Then you know you're completely busted. :P

The snort that I mean is more a blow through the nose not a rut snort. What I am talking about is when you are busted wether by scent or vision, it is an alarm sound. I have only seen it in does, since they usually concerned about other deer in their group. I would think an old buck would just give you the silent slip. I hope it is mainly done by does because the wind shifted on me yesterday after doing some light rattling and just below me in some thick, thick bush was the sound. I could just make out the deer about 200 yrds away light was very poor, but I thought I saw antlers. This is the area that has a rather large buck in it.
