Well, I"m 3 for 3, and I'm pretty sure the first and third are related. I ended up in Prince Albert for my third year in a row and tried my luck at another Big Whitetail.
We arrived around the 20th at the Mother in laws place and since rifle didn't open til the 25th, I'd figure I'd try my luck in the Bow Zone.
I ended up propelling 2 pointy sticks at this guy

but I missed the first shot (no idea if I was high, low, or sideways) and I deflected the second shot through his legs off a branch (had to be the only branch in Saskatchewan!) He was the big one that got away :icon_frow

I passed on a small 4x4-and couldn't get a shot on this guy.

He's the Giant that got away. If only my picture was better-he had points everywhere! If Rifles were allowed-he'd at least have some hair missing(the way I've been shooting this year!)
So feeling a little dejected when the 25th rolled around, Hitch shows up and we started focusing our attention on a buck I've been keeping an eye on for a couple years. We nick-named him High-tines cuz that's what he turned into this year.
I gotta couple of shots at him this year and for some reason-missed every time. Must be subliminal-last year I didn't take the shot, and this year I missed him 3 times!!!One of which was standing broadside at about 75 yards. Then, Hitch gets him centered in his scope and doesnt take the shot either-abandoned building near by that he didn't realize was abandoned.. oh well-next year maybe.

okay-where was i? Right-High tines lives on for another year...

We then move on to the family property where i shot a big boy 3 years ago..
i take up my same spot and the morning start s-l-o-w. Nothing. until about 9am- I manage to catch a glimpse of a Doe way off in the distance-now all you who think sask is flat-really have never hunted there. there are so many hills and valleys that deer seemingly appear out of thin air-and this doe did the opposite-disappeared into thin air.
But I kept my eye on the spot where I noticed her, and surely enough-20 minutes later another appears. and she's interested in something.
Now you ever just look into a certain area and see a deer standing there-no particular reason you looked there , but you do, and there is a giant buck standing there(well-in and ideal situation anyways)...
that's what happened-I noticed she was interested in something and for some reason, I looked over into a spot about 600 yards away from where she was and there he was. standing broadside at about 600 yards from me.
So I leap off the haystack and bolt to where he was last standing. Lots of valleys and hills to run over and finally come to where I think he is. WhereTF is he?
he's almost 50 yards away and still walking...so i settle, put the scope on him, but notice something funky with his right antler. so i watch him for a while but he disappears behind a hill. so I run to the other side of the hill to intercept but run a bit too far-he busts me. so I sit down and he becomes interested.
All you who love to hunt WT's know that they will almost always try and wind you-and that what this guy tried to do...he started back around the hill again and this time I bolted back to my original spot and sat-gun up.
a minute later-here he comes, stompin his feet like a bad ass head on. I take one look at his width and decide he's good-no matter what his R antler looks like.
Waiting for a broadside shot was getting old quick as he was closing fast. So I take the shot head on. center chest-Thump-he's hit hard-runs 20 yards and stops-broadside. send another 165 through the lungs, he goes about 10 more yards into a bush and that's where I found him.

and of course the 'big' pic
http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr331/cainer1/951.jpg

He obviously broke off his right antler early, because it grew funky. it's too bad too, cuz he woulda went big! He's as wide as my 174, and almost the exact same shape. I'm thinking he's gotta be offspring.

if the right antler had of been normal-i think they'd be almost identical, minus the extra few brow points and stickers, and the extra tine. Maybe those would come with age?

anyways-i can't be sure that they're related-but i like to think so-same place, same field, same shape-just a bit younger this fella. Good genetics in the area that's for sure.

So-turned out to be a pretty good hunt all in all. We got lots a meat, had a good visit, and got to enjoy some mother effin cold weather. What more could you ask for?
