Well i got my region 5 buck on he second day i was there. It was probably the easiest buck that i've ever shot. My dad has 30 acres around the 100 mile area that borders all public land and also borders the area that i've grown up hunting my whole life. First day i hiked the first half of the day and checked my camera that i had set up by my treestand (which i built this year and sat in a total of about 1 hour last time i was home. all i've seen from it was a lynx).
Saw a few does and some fresh tracks in the snow but that was it. Then i waited where i shot my buck last year and had nothing come by.
On the second day i got to my dads place about 20 minutes before daylight, got ready and left the house just as you could legally start to shoot. I planned on doing some hiking and then find a good spot to sit and wait for the morning but 150 yards down his driveway i spotted a doe about 70 yrds into the bush along the edge of his field. Sure enough the buck was laying down right beside her and once he stood up and turned his head i saw 4 points so i decided to shoot him. I found a big enough hole through the trees to shoot through and he only went about 10 yrds.
I shot him, gutted him and had him out to the driveway before my dad was even ready to head out. My dad watched the whole thing from the kitchen window.
Anyway he was a young deer and didnt have a very big body but he had potential. would have been a huge buck in a couple years i think, although it looked like he got a horn in one of his eyes and i'm pretty sure the eye was blind.
