So I thought I would start deer hunting this fall. I`m lucky to have a lot of friends who have been hunting for years as well as a group of buddies that are newbies like myself. Having people to help you and give advice is invaluable. I never realized how addictive it can be chasing deer around. I figure I am hooked for the rest of my life now. My buddy turned me on to HBC and it has been a big help and an inspiration as well. I really enjoy seeing everyone else's pics and stories here so heres my contribution and hopefully they can inspire other new guys to keep at it when it seems like all the deer are gone. Don`t have time to tell every detail, thats probably better over a few beers but heres a quick rundown on my first fall.

Bagged my first deer ever near Red Lake on Oct 23. Hunting with my buddy Paul and we got this guy. Stayed at the cabins that are advertised on here all the time. Great spot.

A nice 3x2 and glad we had the Rhino to get him out. An amazing feeling and a great time cruising around hunting grouse while looking for the bucks.
Harvested this Whitey doe on Oct 28 near Tunkwa lake resort. My friends own the resort so I spent a bit of time there this year. Amazing area and great people. All the guys there helped a lot with advice. Borrowed Rich`s(Bushy) old 270 Parker-Hale and took this girl from about 150 m. Hiked for 5 days before I got a shot off. I missed a chance earlier in the week when I missed three does very close to me. I spooked them and they took off flags flying and it was a good lesson to slow down and really look around.

Bagged this Black-tail near Whistler two days ago. Been hiking around the area like crazy and it paid off. Took me almost 5 hours to get him in the truck and heading home. Had to drag him down the mountain I just climbed up. And no one was coming to help. -16 out and pitch black, what a shit show. Got him down but he looked like he was hit by a car. Wore the fur right off him in a few spots. Hope he is tasty after all that. I found the bullet while skinning him. 32 Win spl

Thats about it. Ran into a mom bear and cub on the first day of the season near Whis. Fell asleep in the bush near Logan Lake one day in Oct and was woken up by a cougar that had followed me down the mountain. We had a stare down for about 5 mins but I never shot him. Lots more going on in the bush than I ever imagined. A few days left for everyone so good luck and next year I am going for a big boy!

A couple more pics for the road. My buddy says its a muley so I have to show the tail pic. I wiped out on the way out and broke off the rear sight on my Winchester. Hopefully I can get it replaced. Not much good without it.

Great pics, but even better luck! You're off to a roaring start on your hunting career - hope you cook as well as you shoot.

And that 30-30 with open sights is a gun with soul. Good on you!

And tell your buddy he's wrong - that's a BT, no question.

Nice 2pt. I think most people over look whistler. Afraid of too many tourists and hikers. Nice work on the hat trick, freezer should be nice an full now

Lots of local hunters from Squam to Pemby here. Tough terrain and not a lot of deer. NO road hunting for the majority of the sea to sky, you have highway then straight up. Gorgeous woods once you are up there though. Got lucky and beat the deep snow. 30 cms coming tonight so could make for some hard slogging. Can`t wait for next fall. The Winchester is a 32 special. The serial number shows it was made in 1913. Almost a hundred and still works great. It has been re barreled at some point but the action is tight. I love it. No fear of dinging the stock on this old boy.

Well its nice to see some one had some good luck this year. I am still at Tunkwa and still looking for a Whitie. You know who it is now. We are heading up to Red lake this week for a Trophy Mule, going to stay in the Red Lake cabin they are sweet. Missed a white yesterday outside the cabin.

I was hoping to see you again up here, so I could drink my sorrows away and here your great stories on your kills. I will be here till I get that monster white. By the way that white doe taste great. Thanks for leaving it for us...

Way cool bro. Extra cool points for the old lever. And another half point for 32 special. LOL

Google Western Gun Parts for your rear site. I don't know the old winnys well I have Marlins but you might be able to get a reciever site (ghost ring) without drilling any new holes. ? Which is way better imo once you get used to them. WGP should have a stock buckhorn site if that's your pleasure

Thanks Salty, good tips and much appreciated. That last BT was only 20 m away from me looking down from behind a big tree. We played peek-a-boo with each other as he was checking me out. His antlers looked like they were 4 ft tall from my point of view. He wasn`t nervous at all, more curious as to who the hell would climb into his territory in frigid conditions. I was behind my tree, cocked the hammer and slid the gun around and he had stepped out a bit to see what I was up to and BAM. He tumbled down to my little flat spot. The hill was really steep as you can kinda see from the photo. I was looking forward to gutting him so I could warm my hand sup a bit,LOL.

Hey John, can`t believe you didn`t bag a big whitey yet. Hard to hunt when its -30 I bet. Heard you had a good look at one yesterday. Good luck at Red, that place is a deer factory. Was gonna come up to Tunkwa this weekend but snowstorm here and working again so reality has come back to get me. Help yourself to the doe. All the burger you can eat. Just leave me some backstrap. I`m getting a little tired of this muley. Joedy is paying for it anyway!!!! You guys should stop here in Whistler for a night on the way back to the Island. Season is open till Dec 15 here. Let me know when your coming down and maybe you can bring the doe with you. thanks
