Haven't been hunting near there at all this year. Spent several days in there last fall... saw 3 does the hole time. Not saying they aren't there, but it's not like hunting black tails on the island.

It's a tough go for sure. It's my backyard and I still rarely see deer. I'd suggest a drive up the coquihalla for more action.

good luck.

If you dont want to drive far and just enjoy the outdoors, hit up the valley, hike hard and find a little area away from the roads,

I trapped the valley, saw my share of rubs and decent BT sign but never saw a buck lol, a few does,

But you want to kill a deer, go for a drive up country, wayyy more deer,
but as I said if you want to hike and enjoy your backyard, its a good place to get lots of time into, and once you get onto it, you will kill bucks.

if your not into that sort of commitment, head up

You could head up by Jones lake and go look around there. One thing thought with black tail hunting is that it is a year round commitment if you want to shoot bucks in region 2. So once the spring come I would pick up a back roads map book and head out and scout.

:-D I got a nice big 6 point off the Chilliwack River Road back in 1992, and another hunter that year got a 5 point at the end of the road.

I've seen a few bucks and does (mostly does) in the Chilliwack/Vedder valley. It's not a waste of time going up there, but you have to be patient with the ATVs buzzing around unaware of your presence.

Remember the deer in the Chilliwack area are coastal blacktail they are renouned for staying in the deepest/thickest bush so do not be overly surprised if you do not see any but they are there...

To be relatively successful hunting coastal blacktail you need to be out just before or just after a rain storm and I even hunt them in the rain masks the sounds I am making.

You need to find an area with sign and/or trails that the deer are take from bedding to eating areas you need to get rid of all human scents, glass the edges of cuts at day break but your probably better off being set up where they will travel.

Unless the rut is on these deer are tough to hunt and a real challenge if you can find it buy this book and follow it religiously this fellow is a master when it comes to Blacktail hunting and yes I have the book and now that I am moving to the Chilliwack area myself I'm digging mine out and going to read it again and again...

I have seen a few deer in different areas up the valley but I still just hit the hwy and go to kamloops or Meritt but if its blacktail your after do the fraser canyon at least your chances are better !

Double check the regs....... I believe you can't shoot within 1/4 mile of either side of Chilliwack River Road. Lot of deer up there but you need to get into the steep thick stuff to find them.

Not the entire road, the prison camp to the campground has an 800 meter no shooting zone on either side. Closer to town there is a shotgun using shot only area.

Was that 1/4 mile no shooting restriction in place back 20 years ago?

If you look at the maps of shot only areas in the Chilliwack Valley and the .8 km either side of road no shooting area (from jail camp to the lake) on pages 36 and 37 of the current regs, my copy of the 1991-1992 regs has the identical maps in it.

My brother took this black tail on Nov 11/2010, west side of Harrison. He was in full rut and stinky!

Like has been said, there's more deer up there than alot of people think. Just spend a little time in the south facing alpine in November after a fresh snow! I haven't figured them out just yet but the day of reconning(?) is coming!!

There is definitely deer in chilliwack. I see them all the time up Chilliwack Lake Rd. Just last week I came across 4 of them hanging out right beside the road a few km's before Tamihi bridge. They all looked pretty young but none the less they are definitely there.
