The season started off with our usual three week trip up the tuchodi with Riverjet Adventures. Three of us headed in Sept 3rd for sheep, upon being dropped off the rain started.. hiking in, the fog lowered and visibility was at fifty feet.. I had been in the country before but being cocky left the gps at our river camp.. the short story being that half way in I took the wrong drainage, leaving us at seven o'clock at night in a swamp!! What a Hunter!!!, We bedded down in the rain and awoke to more rain, almost two inches of rainwater in our pot overnight

The ceiling had not lifted the next morning so we backtracked for several hours to a point I recognized and then made our way in to our spot. the next seven days had fog, rain, snow, wind and 1 1/2 days of sun.. we did see sheep but nothing legal

No wonder you didn't kill a ram, with all that POT:mrgreen: shouldn't have left your baggy open, must have been a chore trying to re-dry that stuff?:-D

At the end of the week we moved back to the river to meet Kevin from riverjet and the rest of our crew... We had a toatal of twelve guys (including ourselves), coming up to elk camp.. a large camp with some new faces in it

http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i17/jtglaicar/Brucespictures22.jpg

We changed things up this year and spiked camped instead of going back to the river each day

Five point

http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i17/jtglaicar/Brucespictures16.jpg

We had more snow, fog and wind, however we did manage to take six elk (four bulls and two cows) and had a couple of guys miss

http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i17/jtglaicar/Brucespictures29.jpg

more to come in a bit

The trip was not without it's challenges, one of our party blew his back packing his bull out (that was the good part) spent the next five days on painkillers, once back home they had to operate for a bulged disk and a ruptured disk!! but in the end it is all worth it:mrgreen:

the good part

http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i17/jtglaicar/Jimspictures243.jpg

One of our hunting partners went on to a better place this year, we placed a memorial for him 14km from the river at a special spot.. RIP Darrin

Might of been some elk around

http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i17/jtglaicar/CIMG1542.jpg

Coming home Oct 4th I spent some down time, A buddy had a cow moose draws so the wives and us went out.... made it a lot easier with the horse

http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i17/jtglaicar/Darrensmoose.jpg

At the beginning of Nov I was lucky enough to be invited on a resident KIB hunt, met some good guys and saw some great sheep.. A good ram by any accounts

http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i17/jtglaicar/AJsram.jpg

On the way back from the KIB hunt I stopped in at empire valley and stayed at the calving barn, saw lots of deer but nothing legal

http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i17/jtglaicar/Bingoatempire.jpg

sure is gorgeous riding country

Back at home I spent some time hunting from the house, was lucky enough to take a three point buck and the best part is my five year old daughter and wife helped me get it out (along with the horse!)

All in all a pretty good year, a guy never stops learning, from taking the wrong drainage to spending time in the spike camps it all was a lot of fun.. looking forward to next year, again a big thank you to Kevin from Riverjet Adventures for making a trip for twelve guys so smooth, service was more than fantastic and the animals were there as always

http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i17/jtglaicar/Brucespictures87.jpg

you can pencil us in again for next year!!
