Well after 14 years of hunting and many missed chances, I finally got him. This buck was a real accomplishment for me. 200 yds. with the ruger .300win. and 180 tsx did the trick again.
Now how does ruttin' whiteail taste:confused:

skin it,hang it for a couple of weeks and I doubt you;ll be able to tell any diference between a rutting buck or not.Shot a mule deer buck that I could smell before I saw him-turned out to be prime table fare

Congrats on your first whitetail. As far as taste goes, just hang it for 10 -12 days in a cooler and you should be fine. I have had only one bad whitetail out of a dozen that I have killed...

Dont hang it, thats a waste of time and meat!!!
I deboned mine on the spot, threw a roast in the croc pot the next day, and it was to die for delicious!
Oh BTW Congrads on finally getting a nice whitey, I too know how it feels now!

I wouldnt bother letting it hang for more than a day in these temps. There is no real aging to be done. Congrats! Im heading out in a bit to try and find a similar buck, haven't shot a WT in five years!

Mark's on the money. Shot properly, skinned properly,no scent taints, buck it, and eat it. Great stuff.

Congrats on your whitey.
I am a big believer in hanging it for at least a week in a cooler between 32F-40F I also leave the hide on so the only meat that dries out is what is exposed.

Congrats! Bagged a whitie myself 2 mornings ago! Once it thaws I am sure it will be good eatin! Had a whitiecicle when it got to the butchers!! Moosin
