After waiting months on end the time came to once again hunt Alberta. I met up with my family and friends last week and planned on 5 days of hunting. My plan was to harvest a larger deer than last year.
Day one started off seeing some bucks but nothing big enough for the first day. I helped out around the farm moving cattle from one section to another and the gun was never far from my reach. We busted a couple of does and a small buck near the grain bins and my cousin was yelling shoot!!! Haha he wasnt fooling anybody. That buck was no better than a 2 point.
Day two started much the same, lots of little bucks but shooters. Now both my cousins have the muley draw in this area and there are lots of muleys. They are not as skittish as the whities and you can close the distance on these boys. As luck would have it I spotted a decent buck and told my host to have a look. Yep he will do was the answer. So a quick plan was made. I would walk the brush and haze the beast out to the shooter. Here is the result.http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash2/hs485.ash2/75819_10150089208530861_695030860_7510212_519035_n .jpg (http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=7510277&id=695030860)
With the muley down, it was now time to get serious for whities. Not much of a story. It was late in the afternoon and I was sitting on point waiting for the deer to show. Right on schedule, here they come, doe, doe, buck, Holy sh#t!!! GOOD BUCK!
My cousin whispers softly, if you dont hurry up and shoot him I will!!! The deer was faceing away and the only shot was the texas heart. I waited until he turned his neck to face me and instinct took over. I dont remember pulling the trigger. He took one step and fell. THe shot was 285 yard with a 180 gr from a browning 325.
So after all that reading here is the 2010 buck.

I look a little dazed, not sure why though.

To top it off the next morning I pushed a small brush patch and this nice deer ran right into my cousins gun..

Hope you enjoy the story and pictures.
I wasnt sure if I was going to mount this buck but driving back to BC I though about it and decided why not. The last buck turned out so good I had a hard time not doing it. So once again I entrusted this deer to Ray Wiens Taxidermy.
