View Full Version : Nemesis conquered!

Anyone that knows me, knows that whities are my personal nemesis!
While Ive got a pretty good handle on the mule deer situation, Ive yet to find or get a clean shot at a decent whitey in my life????
Ive been feeling pretty burnt out since muleys closed, been kicking around home catching up on things.
I didnt even leave my house till 10:00 am yesterday, I was only going out to set up a bait pile, in a spot where I chased a nice whitey around last year.....
I had a spot in mind, and when I got there, I found an elk sized whitey rub!
So I figure Ill go for a hike.....wasnt a ton of sign, only seen 1 doe, then I bumped this guy... he took off, then slowed to a walk as he got cover....I managed to slip one in through a window at 100 yards....dropped him on the spot!

He's a little uneven, but has wicked mass throughout the frame!
This is by far my best whitey ever, even a saskatchewan whitey hunt years ago, couldnt find me a decent buck.
Heres a top view!

http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/../photos/data/500/medium/2010_bucks_019_Small_.jpg (http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/../photos/showphoto.php?photo=21155&size=big&cat=recent&limit=recent)
&
I was about a mile hike from the truck, I caped him out & deboned him, hiked out through some very rugged terrain with lots of blowdown, after lots of rain. (slippery)
I knew right away this was the heaviest load Ive ever packed, weighed my pack at the taxis shop... 125 LBS add my gun and binos and thats a 135 lb load!!!!!
This is the biggest bodied whitey Ive ever seen in the okanagan, and I dont leave much meat for the ravens????
This hunt also pops the cherry for my new lightweight "Brambles built" .270, good thing too as I couldnt of carried another pound!
Brambles can give gun specs for the gun freaks!
Troutseeker can give the load data for the ammo/reloader freaks!

http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/../photos/data/500/medium/2010_bucks_029_Small_.jpg (http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/../photos/showphoto.php?photo=21156&size=big&cat=recent&limit=recent)
He's actually a 4x6, he's got a lil cheater on the 5 pt. side!
I cleaned up, cut and wrapped the meat today, through a roast in the crockpot and im eating it right now, forgot how tasty these rats are!

Id post some nice field pics, but there are way too many junior detectives around here trying to figure out my spots.

NOV. 20 UPDATE: Just scored him....152" gross!

Nice buck, well done. I read an interesting article some years ago and the author claimed to have harvested many good whitetail between the hours of 10:00AM and 3:00PM. His theory was that it's a conditioned response to the hunting pressure of the early mornings and late evening. The bigger bucks take advantage of the lull in hunting pressure of the mid mornings and early afternoons to chase the does around and avoid weight gain. The majority of the weight gain amounts to between 125 and 180 grains.:)

Nice buck and a big congrats to you.
What does it weigh?

First off, no you couldnt!
Secondly If you read my post, youd see I deboned it and packed him out, the head and cape was 25 lbs, 90 lbs of meat, dam close in body size to a big muley!

That is one fine BC whitie, I have never seen one that big in bc. That is a nice finish to your decent season

Its been a decent season alright, but im not finished!!!!!

To be honest, it was only the 4th time in the general area, 2 time to the exact spot. BTW I did see another whitey this big or bigger that got away on me earlier this year!
Me seeing 2 cranker whiteys in 1 year, about uses up my whitey luck for the next 20 years!!!

As promised, I picked up my whitey rack while dropping off the big muley.... My whitey taped out at 152" gross.

While skinning out my buck at the taxi shop, my other hunting bud pulls up and had this in his truck....

Mainframe gross's 179, nets 175, add over 7" of extras for a gross score of 186+, or a sad net typ. score of 168"

This hunter also saw a 200+" mulie on his drive home! :-D Looking forward to the bow season myself!

Ok guys I just spent the last couple of days cleaning up this thread. What some think as just poking fun at a guide and outfitters territories and posting pictures of their cabins photo shopped with people in it can actually hurt someones business and lively hood, not to mention a possible lawsuit against the posters as well as HBC as a whole.

The site is growing so fast and if it gets to the point were we can't police ourselves or send the flags when things are going south it's going to eventually shut the site down for good.

Think about what you're saying and what impact it may have on that person / business; the implications that could be associated with this site as well.

Marc.
