Find track..... release hounds..... chase all day and never leave a small area and go home really frusterated with tired hounds and a fuzz ball still run'n. LOL

Actually hound dogg'n them is fun, some guys call but mountain music beats sitting in the cold try'n to fool one of these warry critters. .17 HMR looks like a sure fire cat killer, havn't done it myself (mine was done with my deer rifle) but looks like a winner, Mr. Dean did a great master piece on reduced loads for a .223 which looks great... I'm now runn'n a .243 with reduced loads enables me to take on all them cats with one rifle. Thanks Big Ben!

Hounds is your best bet. .22 is plenty firing power.

Got these pics while deer hunting in October. I think he wanted to play! Good luck with your hunting.

I haven't taken one yet but did have one come to an e-call while prowling for yotes. And as SHAKER said, I reworked a .223 load that I think will suit the lill' buggers needs, when the right time comes along. The load was developed specifically for Bob's but has proven good on other, paper thin-skinned game, as well!

If I had a rifle in my hand when that cat showed,,,,, it woulda been dead. As it were, I was going in to collect my call and set up further down the trail. Luck was with me that day as cats closed the very day before (whew!). And yeah, I even had the regs sitting on the dash of my Jeep....

If I'm specifically calling them I would take my Marlin 917 SF in 17HMR loaded with 20gr XTP's.

If I was chasing them with dogs I'd take my T/C Contender carbine with one of the following barrels...

21" s/s tapered 223 + 40gr Hornady V-Max
18" blued tapered 10mm + 135gr Nosler HP
14" s/s bull 45 Colt + 200gr Hornady FTX

:-D

yes got one 3 years ago while deer hunting, saw it on the prowl in the snow, go behind some blackberry bushes and when it came out the other side it was gifted a 180 gr 30-06 bullet right through the vitals, didnt go too far, left a big exit hole but all the hide was in tact, so the taxidermist said not too much damage for easy repair job. beutiful cat, good luck!

If it were legal, a hand gun would be the prime tool for hound dogg'n. Sucks pack'n a long arm after all them fuzzy guys!

My personal cat rifle is a New England SS which will be getting open sites before next year. Smallest package I could figure that could be abused beyond what anyone should be puting a fine firearm threw.

I agree .
Pistol would be the pefect thing to carry with the hounds .

As it stands we normally take carbine or folder .

I have a bunch of tsx 53g 223 rounds loaded up that shoot well in my 223 rifle which will also be serving double duty as a big game and small game round.

I saw one a week ago in near chilliwack and it was a good 40+ lbs
it was on the move but a good sized cat for what its worth.

I've seen a couple in the snow. One last yr reg 8 driving, and one still hunting w my bow also in reg 8.I think 45-70 Barnes TSX hollowpoint 300gr would be my load of choice:I heard they bite.

that would be a pretty rare find for a cat down here .

Note the area and go back to the cats territory with a call.

I've hunted Bobs in the mainland for a few years.... kind of where I cut my teeth on hound hunt'n. If you can ever get some snow you'll find an abundance of them things...... Just ask GrizzEZ, for the amout of abuse I've put him threw chase'n in the coast slop, he really deserves one of the fuzzy *^%*ers.

45\70? Maybe if you run a permium bullet at max load! Anything will work you just dont' want to distroy the pelt on such a beutiful critter.

My Bob went in about the 40lb range but ANY Bob is a well earned trophy.

How do you guys go about hunting bobcats and lynx without dogs? I wouldn't mind trying it out after the holidays after I part with my dogs when I come back for school.

You can call them in. Mouse squeeker or a dying rabbit will work well. You do not need a large bore rifle for these guys, just remember that you are shooting at a 4 in target. 22lr or a shotgun

eastkoothunter,
being at the right place at the right time.
last year I was able to harvest a Lynx this way, didnt know what it was, it ran in the bush off the gravel road, my friend thought it was a coyote, but I was not sure, so I ran down the game trails, in savage mode, just going on instingt, went about a 100 yards and I stopped, looked up and seen about 100 yards away a face look at me, looked through the scope and seen probably the most beutiful animals ive seen in the wild, its coat almost looked like it had snow in it, large ear tuffs, thick prime fur, as it looked at me sitting on the log, my gun unloaded, me fumbling to find a bullet, the first one fell on the ground, the second went in with some trouble finally went in, I shouldered the rifle and to my surprise, the Lynx still looking at me with those dagger like eyes, I shot and the cat went down, by the time I ran to it it breathed its last breath and died in my arms, I wont admit i cried,(probably dust in my eye ) I thanked God for giving me this amazing animal,

All I need now is a Cougar and I have my north american cat slam all by spot and stalk.

Right place and right time, and much help from God.
