Lotsa scrapes and rubs opened up and started in the last couple weeks.

Boys had 1 5 pt go through today.

Time to get out there and put some hair on the ground.

Good luck.

I had a reliable source tell me that several booner class whitetails are rutting right by Hubbard's cabin in Ok Mountain Park.

What GG said also for the Peace region. Things really picked up these last two days (quiet for first few days) and is only going to get better over the next week.

What the heck ?
I've been out 2 of the last 4 days and found things very quiet.
Lots of snow up high.
Very little shooting.

You should have followed GG around. He likes it when people follow his tracks in the snow to his whitetail blind. Of course, it wouldn't be so easy to pick out his tracks if he didn't wear cowboy boots hunting. Those pointy tracks are a dead give-away:mrgreen:.

I made the mistake of taking my whitetail early. Now Im forced to Reg 3. which I don't know that well. Went 3 days dawn till dusk (last week). Nothing..except one doe I brought in. It was slow out there.

I'm hoping all this rain today will mean lots of snow so I can finally get on a 4pt Mule.

One guy I talked to said they are between 1st and 2nd rut.

Think it's the same deal as muleys.

Most of the guys like to hunt after the majority of the breeding has been done. That's when the bucks are really putting on the miles looking for the last of the hot does.

The 'rut' for hunters is at the end of the first 'rut' for the deer. Agree usually the 22-25 is some of the best in terms of wt hunting.

Was up in region 8 all last week ... talked to a few locals in the North Okanagan who said that not much was being pulled out of the area this year. Had a chance at a decent WT buck, and came across a 3 pt mulie in 4 pt season...but that was the best of it.

OK, what's the second hint...

Look for an area this is just off the majority of winter range or on the fringe of it.

Those spots are usually just after where the deer are in September and right before where the majority of the hunters congregate in November.

Just spoke to hunting buddy last night. Rattled a 130-150 class in last week and saw 8 other bucks in the EK, hunting in the evenings. He said the only thing quiet was the lack of hunters.:confused:

Watched a nice whitey buck chase a doe over a ridge this morning, waited 10 minutes, did some grunting, didn't have a doe bleat so I mimicked a Doe in a can, started chuckling about how awful it sounded, then watched the Whitey come back over the ridge sniffing and scraping the ground for a solid 15 minutes.

Gotta love this time of year.

Yes it was...but a pop-up blind, catalytic heater and a fleece blankie made a world of difference:mrgreen:.
Only thing that was missing was the deer.

Anyone still seeing bucks chasing does? Could rut be winding down pretty quick? Saw a decent 5 point chasing a doe a week ago, spike with nose to the ground on Tuesday but has been fairly quiet since, all the does I've seen since have been buckless.

Last weekend was great - saw 8 different WT's bucks, and 2 decent mulies, plus two spike mulies. I got shot at the biggest WT I saw, but got a bit of buck fever and held high on a downhill shot. My first clean miss in a long time. Anyhow, I was stoked for today and thought it would be great with all the fresh snow. Got to my spot, no one had been there all week!!! Sweet!

There must have been 10,000 fresh deer tracks, but seemed they all were laying down today, saw lots of bedded mulies and a few WT's, the same two big mulie bucks of course but no WT bucks...... Maybe try an evening hunt tomorrow instead. Last chance!

Tried again this evening in my usual spot - no WT bucks, but lots of tracks on top of my tracks from yesterday morn. It seems they went nocturnal again!!! At least at my spot, either that or the parade of mulies that have moved in chased them away? Why oh why can we not bowhunt mulies in 8-23..... what a stupid exemption to the late bow season!!!!!!!

Yea saw the hog as well, just another unbelievable Okanagan whitey hitting the snow, you can't cry too hard with the WT you dropped as well.

Lots of beauties being dropped, wet spring/summer brought in great vegetation for antler growth I'd say.
