Hi everyone just looking for some input, when I was in high-school I bought a rifleman rifle scope to put on my grandpas .30-06 as I did not have the money to spend anything more and it served me well but now that I am nearing the end of my university career and have a little savings put away for travelling and leisure I am going to be buying either a tika or sako and was wondering what price range you would go for optics?

For $670 you go with a Leupold VX3 3.5-10x40mm or my preference is a Leupold FX3 6x42 for $512

Just bought a tikka t3 lite stainless in 270wsm and put a new leupold canadian edition on it for 600 after taxes, set my load up and sent away for a custom turret and am having a great time with it, love the idea of turning the turret to a yardage and shooting took a day to get it set up but is working great for me now

Take a look at used VX3s in the classifieds both on this site and on Gunnutz. There are lots of good deals on Leupies to be had. Some of this site's sponsors offer good deals as well,Omineca for example. One of my favorite Leupolds is the VXII 3x9LR.Reasonably priced,it has the long range dots,it's fairly light, and does not give up a huge amount of optical quality to my VX3s.The scope I use more than any other though is the VX3 2.5x8 Gunner

VXII, Vx3 - both excellent choices. I own a 3-9x33 VXII, 3-9x40 VXII (both with LR duplex) and a 2.5-8x36 vx3 & 3.5-10x40 (both w/ boone & crockett reticle) and a 4.5-14x40 Long range vx3. Also a FXIII 6x42 and a Mark2 Hunter 3-9x40 LR dplx. Love my leupolds!

I own a VX3 3.5-10x40mm with the Boone and Crockett reticle and highly recommend this scope. I believe Grouse River lists this model for $789 on their website. I have two Redfield Revolution scopes as well, one is a 3-9x40 and the other is a 3-9x50. These are also reliable scopes at a much lower price.

Leupold puts out a quality product and the warranty is top shelf. My son slipped out hunting and bent the back eyepiece of his 2-7 VX 11 to a 45 degree angle. They repaired it and sent it back no charge. Both my son and I now have FX 6X42 scopes and so far we are really pleased with them.

How much??

Zero $$.......everyone knows I'm a Vortex whore. I've held my lowly Diamondback 3-9x40 beside a Leupold Rifleman 3-9x40 and if you don't already know my answer to the comparison test, then you're not paying attention.

If I'm going to spend over 1K for another scope I'd be putting my money into a Vortex Viper.

Unless Bill wants to make me a Kowa Team shooter and promos me a high-end scope/binos and such...

A hahahaa!!! TB kills again!!! LOL

Dan - call me for some awesome prices on Kowa but since they don't make riflescopes I'll have to agree that the Vortex Viper I have on my .308 isn't terrible especially for the money.

The biggest and bestus thing about Leupold riflescopes IMHO is the optional screw-in flip-up lens covers, they are totally groovy. After another dawn-dusk rain day today I'm going to have to get some of those slip-on covers for it!

First thing I did was to Put those tight-fitting flip up covers on my Diamondback. I'd love some of the screw-in ones though.

You will find that Leupold US prices for scopes from Cabela and Bass Pro are considerably less than the exact same product sold in their Canadian outlets. It has nothing to do with exchange rates, duty or shipping costs. As a US made product, under NAFTA, these scopes enter Canada duty free, the CDN dollar is at par with the US dollar and shipping costs are low. The issue is that rifle scopes are restricted by the US Govt for export and the additional paperwork drives the cost of the product up.
