Last night I decided I was going out today, so I got all my stuff ready and figured out where I was headed. 6:45am the alarm goes off, I lay around for 5 while I decided whether I was getting up going back to bed, then I remember the fight that I started with the wife so I jumped out of bed. While getting ready to leave my sons both appeared and said goodbye.
10min later I turned onto the dirt, crossed the creek and drove past a camp - a wall tent with 3 trucks and a horse trailer (I think it is the outfitters). 2km later I park the truck and start walking, I made it about 1/2km and I look down and see grizz tracks from lastnight. I decided to continue north on the road and 3/4km later I look down to see another set of fresh Grizz tracks(I assume both tracks were from the same bear). In one quick motion the rifle comes off the shoulder, safety off and scope caps open, I look around and listen but dont hear or see anything. Only having 200yds more to go, I decide to keep going. Just as I am coming around the last corner I see and hear ravens, and then catch a big dark object in the cut block 200yds in front of me. I watch the bear for 5-10min before he walks into the timber with something in his mouth that appeared to be the size of a deer head. Not wanting to stick around I decide to quickly glass the hill side and then head for the truck.
When I get back to the truck I decide to drive back down the road, cross the creek and head up another small valley. I walked about 1.5km and came across a small buck, and after a 15min staring contest I discovered that he was a 3x2, so I continued north again. It started to snow and I wasnt dress for it so I decided to start the 4km walk back to the truck.
Once I got back to the truck I headed home, when I got back to town I decided to take a look in an area that I have seen lots of mule deer and even shot one. I drive into the cut block and right away I seen about 6 deer in the block and one is way bigger. I pull up the bino's and sure enough he is a 4x4. I shut off the truck, climb out, load the rifle and walk over to a stump where I sit down take a rest and BOOM. Mule deer down. I walk 200yds through the block, make sure he is down for good, cut my tag and head to town and grab the old man to help. Dad and I bounce the wifes jeep through the block and then load the buck in to the jeep whole. I am not sure what he'll score but he is my biggest so far.http://http://i583.photobucket.com/albums/ss279/j270wsm/2010%20hunting/298.jpg
