Took this muley sat with my .45-70 prob just under 60 yds.Barnes TSX 300 grains.End to end.Shoulder heart ,lungs and ended up against rear hip(perfect mushroom w one lost petal). He was bedded and i shot him that way.neat little crown on right side.He was a little stinky.gonna fire up the barby in about 5 min!!I've gotten a few bigger ones but this was really exciting because it my first with the 45-70 guidegun(and handloads).http://i540.photobucket.com/albums/gg356/huntpic2008/P1020165.jpg?t=1289174541http://i540.photobucket.com/albums/gg356/huntpic2008/P1020179.jpg?t=1289180836

nice going!!!

Now tell me what your secret is to be able to walk within 60 yards of a bedded deer and have him lay long enough to get a shot.

I've tried and failed.

I just put a photo of the TSX on next to the other photo link.this TSX at max load did a fair bit of damage.Heavy recoil w this combo.Factory loads are easier to shoot(real easy)RECOIL PAD helps a lot.People see the big hole in the barrel and get scared to shoot it.I've heard that w the normal .45-70 loads you get amazingly minimal meat damage. This is a hollowpoint so would prob open up at slower speed too.Cooked up the tenderloins on the barby and my son wuoldnt stop eating(I got to eat a little bit)!!!!Tenderest, non-gameyist best tasting deer I've eaten in my life!!

Nice buck! Ya hollowpoints in a 45-70 with a stiff load do damage. Try the hornaday soft points or similar for way way less carnage.

Tenderest, non-gameyist best tasting deer I've eaten in my life!!

That's what happens when you shoot game with a man's gun! The animals get tenderized on impact and the big boom scare's the stink out of them too!!!:-D

Another nice mulie for you F. Gotta love getting in close. Congrat's. Gotta love the 45-70 (wish I had bought one when they were still reasonably priced).
