Heading out tonight for grouse and we might hit some snow, anyone know if grouse will be out in the snow?
Do they stick to their regular routine?
A white backdrop would be nice, as were fairly inexperienced.
I'm sure they don't fly south :-D, do they ?

Grouse get buried in the snow and stay there for the winter if they don't fly south in time.
Bring your dog along and he might sniff out a burrowed grouse.

Snow doesnt help you at all. But that isnt enough of a reason not to go!

Dry spots under heavy timber. Or, you can track them near water/gravel sources. Daily trips for gravel for their gizzards keeps them coming out to those little gravel areas on trails and roads. Be early. Be first.

Look for roundish holes with a sortofa head shape in light snow. Have your scattergun ready - you'll get within about 10' and 'POOF' they go airborne about 5' away from the entry hole.

We had perfect conditions for this up here during the end of deer season last year. If you weren't alert to 'em the buggers scared the bejeezus out of ya half the time.

I used to love hunting grouse with my dog after a few inches of snow were on the ground in the praries. She would run ahead and find them, most the time flushing them to far in front of me to get a shot, but they never fly far...

I was up in the mountains the other day looking for grouse. The only thing that put an early end to my whole day was 3 feet of snow on steep terrain. Bring snowshoes.

ive had just as much luck in the snow, especially fresh snow because if you cant find any or flush any, if you find a fresh track it has always lead me to a grouse, use the snow to your advantage!

I find that grouse disappear once the snow falls. If they can't get grit from roads and trails, why be on them? The grouse head for the trees where they are very difficult to find.

I found one on the road today in the snow but was looking down the hill for deer and nearly ran it over, havent seen one in a month so kinda forgot to keep an eye out for them.
