The hunter missing in the Christian Valley that failed to check in has been located by searchers alive and well.

Search and Rescue crews were called out after the man from the Lower Mainland failed to arrive home as expected on Sunday evening.

Search Manager Rob Braun said that the subject was located near his camp by searchers shortly before 4 p.m. Monday.

"It may be a case of miscommunication over his expected return," says Braun.

RCMP and Central Okanagan Search and Rescue from Kelowna were joined by Grand Forks Search and Rescue as well as RCMP from other local detachments.

The operation also involved members of the Orchard City Amateur Radio club who provided communication links back to Kelowna and Civil Air Search and Rescue who were prepared to send aircraft into the area as soon as the weather cleared.

Search and Rescue encourages people not to travel alone in the bush, and to notify a responsible person about their planned route, destination and time of return.

Even a short walk can turn into a long hike with a wrong turn, and with early sunsets and cold nights hypothermia can set in quickly.

It's important to be prepared so you can enjoy the wilderness and come back safe.
