Well we have been in search of my 11yr old sons first Mule Deer Buck when time has allowed since early Sept. His hopes were to shoot a buck with a rack! simple... Well, through great effort amongst our friends, a Buck was located, and the Hunt was planned(permission secured as this Buck had been hanging on Private Land) and we were off and excited. Saturday morning, up and gone 2 hours before light. travelled approx. 45 mins from home, and began our serach.... The Buck was spotted about an hour after good light, and the stalk was planned. The buck was working his way along a ravine adjacent to a pasture, and we setup on the ridge above him, and sneaked over to have a peak at him, and he was standing at 75yds broadside and I said to my son "OK He's in a good position, take a shot when your ready..." I was behind watching him and the rifle barrel was wavering alot! (First taste of Buck Fever) so I told him not to shoot, and we'd get him setup with solid rest, well the Buck was off and running, and we wondered if we were going to get another shot at all, then he stopped at about 150yds, we got my son in position, and he levelled him with his sisters .308 Win using 150 gr. soft points! What an excellent shot, I finished the buck off once we walked up to him. I have never had a more rewarding, PROUD experience in all my 30 years of hunting, I can now relate to how my Father felt when I killed my first Muley way, way back in 1982... Simply an amazing experience I'll never soon forget..... The Buck has a 26 1/2 inch outside spread, with 24 inch main beams, and a 20 inch inside spread. It was a 4x3 with 2 inch eyeguards.... I've got it all caped out and its going on his wall... The Brute must easily weigh 180lbs dressed! I know many experienced hunters who have yet to take a buck of this calibre. I am super Proud of my son! And this will be the first of many!

Great buck! Did you get permission to hunt a golf course???

No... Not on any Golf Courses..... Cattle Farmer, with many, many hundreds of acres..... I think the deer are the greens keepers... LOL. We had written permission from the farmer, and anyone could have done the same, Not Exclusive Private Land, these people give permission on a first come first served basis... And we were first.... Not normally my style, but for the young guy's first buck... I have no Problem.

Hey Rod congrats to you and especially your son. It sure is a great feeling eh? My son also took his first deer this year and I admit I think I was more excited than he was:-D:-D. No better way to bond with Father and Son/Daughter in my mind. Congrats again. PS My son is going to want his buck mounted now:mrgreen: Congrats again.

Thanks Luckynuts~! I couldn't agree more, I was shaking like it was a booner in front of me.... I don't think Buck Fever ever should go away, it just gets a little more controllable as time goes along..LOL But yes I was probly just as excited as he was for sure... And Congrats to you and your son as well, nice when things finally all come together. And Sorry for getting your son onto the mounting thing, I may be awhile before I can afford it, but it will get done asap. Thanks for your comments HBC'ers!
