well i finally broke my long streak of bad luck on sunday. My son and i left for lytton at 6 am ,we stopped for a short visit with my wifes cousins in lytton ,and we drove to an area i figured we would find a bear in.After about a twenty minute drive i stopped the truck and glassed a logged off hill side, thats when i spotted a brown/cinnamon bear moving across the hill.We were a long ways away and i knew we would have to go in on foot because the road into the area had two ditches with creeks running thru them.We started our stalk into the area and about 5 minutes in we spooked up a cow moose, and about 5 minutes later we spooked up her calf .As we continued along i spotted the bear he was sitting on a stump facing us and i could not get a clear shot so we waited for him to move.He moved up over the hill and out of site so we decided we would stalk up and see if we could find him. When we got up there it was nowhere to be seen or so i thought , when we turned around to leave my son spotted him ,it had circled around and was now standing 20 yards up hill from us as i raised the rifle he bolted over the hill.I stalked up to the crest of the hill and he was about 50 yards away so i took a rest on an old stump put the cross hairs on the vitals and the 30-06 180 gr. silvertip did the rest. The shot was a thru and thru and the bear went about 20 yards and piled up under a tree.I know the bear is not the biggest we've seen on this site but its my first, and i got to do it with my son.All in all it was a great day we got a bear, and saw two moose not bad for days work.Oh did i mention it took us 2 hours to pack it out .I put a picture in my gallery, if somebody could post it here i would appreciate it.

bsa30-06 ... congrats on your first bear .... with the colour phase of that bear, size doesn't matter. You won't find to many like that. Now unless the sun is really playing tricks here, I classify that bear as what Talvers stated ... a blonde ... not choclate or cinnamon. What did it tape from nose to butt anyhow.

Again congrats ... your son must have been stoked to see dad get er done. So when you going for the next one?

like i said that bear was small it went 4'9" nose to tail, and the bullet made a hell of a mess to its rib cage.It left two holes the size of loonies one on the way in and one on the way out,and destroyed the vitals. It also left alot of blood colored, jelly like stuff all over the rib cage.

My first rugged 4'-6" ... thought I shot a cub ... great eating bruin ... that '96 bruin was tad over 5' ... but beautiful color ... looked like an orange walking around in the evening setting sun. Tis a tropy in IMO bsa30-06 ... and sounds like that load does the job fine.

Congrats !!!

Nice bear and I love the colour.

We were up the east side of Harrison on Saturday and saw a good blacky and a brown/cinomann. The blacky bolted and we tried to track him for about an hour but to much thick bush and the browny was too small.

Good job !!!

sorry 3kills i missed your question, but i'm not getting this one rugged i'm holding out for a bigger one.I know theres a bigger one up there i saw it last year its one of those animals that when you see it your response is holy shit thats a big bear. The hide also took some abuse on the way out of the bush.Maybe this bear could win the "nicest looking" part of the HBC contest.
