So the three of us:Sear, Jehiah, and Islander 7mm headed up to Region 8 for the Mulie and Whitetail season. We rented a wall tent for the week from Vantage Point Outfitters and headed for the bush. Spear had done some preseason scouting of the place and we had locations to start from. The first couple days we were out we saw Does and found shed's but no sign of anything with bone. But every day was better than before so we knew we were doing things right we just had to keep at it and not be discouraged. Midweek we had Hotload come by camp and him and Spear went for an evening hunt and spotted a 3x2 in the thick stuff but he offered no shot before he left. So good news, they do exist. The next morning we get up early and head south to hit a new spot. We get out of the truck and climb 1000 ft straight up to the top of a ridge and spread out along it. Spear and I are close together when he whispers deer! Right down there, its a buck... no there's two bucks. So we move down the exposed ridge one at a time while the other one watches the bucks. Undetected we get to as close as possible and set up for the shot. We line them up feeling comfortable at the range and let fly. One buck kicks and the other one is seen bounding up the ridge to the left. (what an awesome sight to see a mule deer move like that) So we make our way down knowing one was hit and as we get to the spot and crest a hill and up pop the beast and boom, boom. We each fire and Spear drops him. He's a beauty 3x3 big bodied mulie and Spear is pumped.

So the next morning we head out to hunt the timber where we've heard good reports. Up we go up the mountain. Jehiah and Spear want to check out a spot on the way up so I continue up though a burn and come to a grove of poplar's with game tails through it. Going with a tip from Hotload that deer love poplar tree's I get above the grove sitting against a tree and rattle a set of sheds I'd found a couple days prior. I did a couple sets and waited 20min then another round. Not 3min passes when I look behind me, *%$# a white rump at twenty yards! I didn't even hear it and he's up wind! I bring up my rifle hoping to see bone when he comes past the tree and looks right at me (with my dumb orange hat). Staying still and waiting for a vital shot he turns and steps from behind the tree, ready Boom!, miss! Right over his back! He starts to move walking away and at thirty yards I've got a shot and its got to count, line him up bring down the crosshairs, Boom, flop! Get on the radio "Buck down, buck down". So Spear and Jehiah make there way up seperatly and after Spear arrives we hear Boom! not to far away. What! Jehiah got one. It turns out that as he was coming up the buck was standing on a rise just above him. So rifle up, Crack. Down he went. So mine turned out to be a big bodied 4x3 and Jehiah's was a 2x3. Double Header! The drag out was hell even though Spear said we should quarter them we stubornly brought them out whole.
And Jehiah popped a Whitetail doe on the drive out.
