I am new to hunting and owning guns. I own 2 already and am looking at getting a couple more.
The price is right on those stack on safes, but they dont look like they would do anything.
And i can t afford a nice $1500+ safe. Especially for 4 guns..

I have been looking around my house to see where i could build a hidden gun compartment.. but i dont really see anywhere good.

What do you guys do?
Any other good alternatives?

How about a built in bookcase in the den with a false back that actually pulls out, but doesn't look like it will?

I think a rifle/shotgun length "lockbox" - not fireproof - can be had for $150 or so and can be secured to a wall.......

The stack on safes are good for the price, not the toughest of safes but if you bolt it to a wall you should be fine. putt it somewhere out of the way where its not very visable?

If you live near the border, look at the www.walmart.com (http://www.walmart.com) site. They have a ten and 14gun safe from 380 to I think 450. Free shipping to a store of your choice.

Costco also has Honeywell and First Alert safes every so often - bought two there between $325 and $425 - electronic / key lock, room for about a dozen rifles (scoped and some with fully adjustable / big stocks) and a dozen handguns.

Canadian Tire has the Stackons for 40% off about every 4 months.

Capit has their aluminum checkerplate lockable truck boxes on for $300-400 every so often if you need something multi purpose.

Remember for rifles trigger lock and ammo not readily accessible is sufficient so can hang them in your walk in closet with a trigger lock and all good, no safe needed.

Here is a picture of one of the Costco safes. They had them for $299 earlier this summer. I built the wooden shelf so I could also put ammo etc in there too. They weigh close to 300 pounds so they are quite abit more heavy duty then the Stack on ones.

I bought that same safe from costco in april this year. After taxes it came to just over $300. Has an electronic key pad and a hidden key slot just in case and fire proof for approx 15 minutes.

I just use a school locker, not secure against bad guys, but does pass the legal requirements as my guns are behind a lock.
