Butchers put the weight of your deer up so he can charge you more by the pound and make you brag about it to friends it's way down from the butchers scale if you weighed it yourself, and he won't show you either exept on your bill.
Jel ( Butcher's lie ) more money that way lol .. Oh he says, yours was the heaviest buck I ever weighed so far, that'll be a thousand dollars ..

My buddy and I shot a 4 point Mule up the bull river many years before digital cameras so all I have is a picture in my photo album(brag book). After a body shot from about 100 yards and a neck shot from 50 yards it finally dropped. We dragged it to the truck but could not lift it in. Some other hunters happened to drive by as we were having a beer so we enlisted their help. It took 5 of us to lift it in. When we got home we cut it in half from top to bottom. Buddy wanted to butcher his own, I wanted to take it to my butcher to get done up. At the butchers he weighed it and my half was 142 pounds. So if a guy were to double it that would bring it to 284. 142 pounds with no head, hide or bottom of the legs. I guess you would call that on the hook.
We also got a nice 4 point whitey about an hour earlier.

The biggest buck I ever got was so big I couldn't drag the furry brute and it was only a three point, his body was the size of Brock Lesnar .. with hair
Jel .. I couldn't even budge it, cuz he was so darn heavy, by the bevy, I drove my chevy .. by the levy and the levy was dry .. made it hard to drag on the dry ground .. that's the whole point .. I'm trying to make here .. no snow at all in the early fall .. I still marvel at the dead weight of this over grown mule .. I felt like a fool .. I had to get help .. I'm still scratchin my scalp .. 400 pounds? had no scale, heavy as a whale .. this isn't a hunting tale .. On the butchers scale ..

I shot a buck on a ridge I walked up on for 800 vertical feet, the buck was a perfect four mule with a 24 inch rack, on snow, I said on snow and, I could only move the buck pulling with a rope, about six inches and I'm 193 pounds of twisted steel and sex appeal. I'd guess gutted about 250 pounds of dead weight.
Jel .. I've shot a lot of mulies over the decades, some big ones as you've seen on my threads.

I honestly wqnder what your deal is Jelvis......

On another note...any mulie over 200lbs hanging is a monster, I would say 180 to 200 would be large for a mature buck. I shot a good buck last year (my biggest) and although I didn't weigh it...it might have gone 185 (maybe) on the hook. All these bucks in the low to mid 200's...with regards to meat...I'd like to know where you guys are hunting! Maybe we have stunted mule deer in northern BC!

Totally agree big 7, I too wonder where alot of these replies are coming from!
I think the initial poster should of clarifyed his meaning of "dressed"
To me thats head, legs, & hide off, wind pipe and neck flank removed, and all fat and shot trimmed!
Dressed in this manner Ive never seen a deer weigh over 200.
My biggest by far was 191 and that was the biggest bodied buck myself and many other hunters had ever seen,
Most mature bucks ring in around 160 lbs. when fully dressed out!

We completely boned out a few mature bucks last year in the feild, all were very close to 100 lbs. of boneless meat!

The three top mule deer hunters I have discussed hunting big mule deer in Kamloops don't even care how much a deer weighs, they don't even want to know, it's all about the score, and the pro score done by a qualified scorer.
Jel .. Only want heavy antler score and make sausage only out of deer .. peperoni is preferred ..

it is not uncommon for mule deer to weigh over 200 lbs on the hook in the peace country. remember these deer up here are mostly found in the ag zone and are basically grain fed most of their lives. i have seen several bucks weighed before field dressing that have weighed well over three hundred pounds and one just under 400.

I shot a monster (I thought till I read this) he was 202 ready for butchering and 275 field dresses. this is the only pic I have all others we destroyed. I was there when she (my butcher weighed it) and it was the heaviest she has ever done.

the biggest that i've shot so far has been 160 lbs at the butcher. my dad has shot a few over the years that were quite a bit bigger but never did get the weight of them, some probably pushed around 200 lb. i asked the butcher i went to last year and he said the biggest buck that he had ever weighed at his shop was 235 lbs.

In reality or a guess at the time when everyone dragged it for a mile and every few yards it gets heavier lol , live weight or dead .. then field dressed or hog dressed .. ? makes a difference in size ..
Jel too many variables, to study and record as official .. Butcher scale? or bathroom scale? lol
Guesstimation or say a big mule is 200 pounds live weight .. ? .. 360 Max live .. ?

I'm still sceptical of claims that a "dressed" buck (dressed in the fashion that Mark had described) could weigh much more than 200 to 220...no matter where they are from.....Peace, Okanagan or Timbuck Too!! Sorry folks.

I am with bridger on this one. We've taken quite a few mule deer over the years from the Peace. Only a couple were heavyweights with hide off, fat trimmed off, lower legs cut off and head off and around 200 lbs at the butcher.

Now ....... those were big bodied bucks but I found the average to be around 160-180 lbs at the butcher......

That said - I took a brute a few years ago that truely describes what bridger is saying about huge heavily bodied bucks........ it was the biggest bodied buck I have ever seen taken by myself or anyone elses bucks for that matter. The size of the body made his 221 gross non-typical frame look small.

It was a brute that took 3 guys to drag and took everything for the three of us just to get the thing in the back of a pick up truck. In contrast, I have been able to load up other bucks by myself or with a 2nd person without difficulty....this one was a real handful.

When I see bucks taken by other guys and they tell me how many pounds it is and just one look at the picture or buck itself and I can call BS. I only have taken 1 true heavy weight but at least I know what they look like on the hoof, dead in the back of my truck, hanging and weighed at the butcher.

Anyone want to take a guess what he weighed hide off, trim off etc :-D

Too bad the picture taker didn't fit the whole buck in the photo ... it was really something to see that thing hanging. I know some guys here will truely appreciate just how big this body is and that they do exist.

I used to be pretty skeptical like yourself and I had seen a lot of deer. Hunted the Peace over 20 yrs and saw a lot of bucks. Including Regions 3, 5 and 7a. Hanging at butcher at 200 lbs with a couple and they were big with most in the 160-180 lb range.

on the hook means no guts, no hide, no head, legs cut off. ready to butcher. if your experience makes you skeptical that deer dressed like this don't weigh over 200 lbs that only means you haven't killed a big peace country mule deer. sorry folks!
