No shame in harvesting a small buck. I think that they are easier to carry! Be lookin for one of those this weekend, gotta get the freezer filled up.

Great thread BHF!

I have no problem posting up the small antlered deer that I have shot but I can Imagine that some might from some of the threads and posts on this forum.

I like the reply " you can't eat the horns" as that is what my buddy always say's. I am a meat hunter at heart and I think this is a great thread for those that might have thought twice about posting legally killed animals because of someone's else's thoughts or views.

Great deer in some of the posts:-D. Your making me hungry:mrgreen:. I'm jealous as I have yet to put anything in the freezer venison wise this year so far.

Right on... great animals!! Cool to see guys out there fillin' the freezers!

I took a friend from the city out on his first big game hunt last weekend. I've never seen someone get so excited over a deer... bigtime buck fever and he hesitated too long on fork whitey and then a spike. My first was a whitey flattop w/ my bow and I'll never forget that hunt! Another was a fork muley that ended up in the river & I had to grab it to keep it from floatin' away...

This is the boys rifle,it is now a family heirloom and previously their dad's.
It was originaly chambered in 30/06 but has been re-chambered for 300 win. mag.It has also been nickel plated and there is a carving of a bear on the stock that is not shown.
I held the rifle for years in my locker until the boys became old enough to accept the transfer.
The boys are now a part of my hunting team, and this is Wes's 4th buck with the Ruger.

Hey Derek, first of all it's surprised you tard, second I'm surprised you see any deer being legally blind. You couldn't see that CUBE VAN you backed into! It's meat in the freezer.

I don't have any pictures, and it wasn't this year, but I am one of those guys that needed to use the spike buck part of the ANTLERLESS OR SPIKE BUCK LEH. Shot a doe that turned out to be a spiker (one horn 1.5 inches, the other close to 3). Probably the best venison ever.

Here's an interesting spike buck from one of the northern gulf islands. He is at least in his second year as a spiker.

Here is my addition to the "official small buck thread"

These were from our trip last year to the koots in Nov. Mine was named ol' popsicle sticks

http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/af86/scottreidy/DSCN8097.jpg

And Jord's was nicknamed ol' toothpick

http://i996.photobucket.com/albums/af86/scottreidy/DSCN8066.jpg

We both had doe draws as well. So we werent too picky with our bucks, as you can see. But they were good eatin!! Except a bear stole Jord's doe one night, haha.

I've seen 6 month old bucks in the same location and all they have is bumps, no bone, so I made the assumption that the 1" spike bucks were a year and a half. Maybe the bump bucks were born later and the 1" spikes were born on time, making them only 6 months, that makes sense. BTW 15lbs of no bone, no fat, no sinew, packaged meat ( I shot one a few years back).

Here is a nice little blacktail my best buddy Tucker and I got a few weeks ago. Tucker goes about 260 lbs plus baggy coveralls so the deer is not as small as it looks. Its WAY bigger than that fox/deer hybrid beside the dog a few posts ago. We cut out after work and sat on a hill on a power line near a heavily used deer trail. Five minutes later this guy walked by and we thought it was a doe at first. He looked up at us and we saw spikes and we froze, he stared at us but didn`t see us, pretty cool. Only 40 ft away max. I had two tags cut and was looking for a big boy so Tucker took him down. I scratched him behind the ear and dragged the buck to the truck. Some meat in the freezer and home by 5 after a hunt.
