Well I recently posted for a jerky maker near abby and well after people saying just make your own, just make your own. Well I thought I would look at what it would be to buy the products to make jerky and it cost me in total $69 for the smoker brand new and no it's not a little chief either it's actually decent with a few mods. And the jerky seasoning $8 from whole sale sports in langly.

And here's the start and finished product. I'll also post a pic of the smoker I bought. Its nothing fancy but it works.

here's my previous post http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=56512 and this thread is the rest of it.

Oh ya I forgot to mention the slicer, it's an old one thats been in the family since my dads been a kid and now he gave it to me as he doesn't hunt and need it any more.

And my wife loves the jerky and she doesn't like deer... i've tryed it and it's pretty good.

AWESOME!!! Glad you decided to give it a try, honestly though, you will not ever regret doing your own. You can mix and match and add all sorts of spices, plus make the ground jerky snack stick types with a couple extra bucks spent...and that's without even getting into doing your own sausage...let the obsession begin.

I like that old meat slicer, they are much better than any of the new ones. Sounds like the Jerky experiment went well for you, my friend makes it and it always goes over well.

Now... where is that smoker picture you promised us? :icon_frow

where'd you get the smoker? I want to get my hands on one, short of making my own.

I was contemplating buying a bradley smoker with my save on points but im 20,000 shy so instead I went to this place out in surrey that sells things in quantity and this was one of them and at the price I picked it up for cheap & even if mods were needed which there were 3, it still was worth it's weight in gold.

So here's the pics.

The smoker came from Bianca amor's liquidation supercentre 15340 104 avenue, surrey.

Now normally I wouldn't buy from a place like a liquidation centre but the smoker came up when I needed it and the price was right $69 plus tax.

3 small mods later and she works like a charm.

- a small washer to take up slack in the handle on each scew x2
- lower the tray by adding shims so the heat heats up the chips quickly or do what i did put the chip tray on element.
- not really a mod but tightened up a few screws and thats it
