I am in a search of a good hunting spot, so today I decided to try near Boston Bar since the rain was not suppose to be savage there. I saw 3 grouses - one too far down the hill, one flushed by dog, the other on the road was gone by the time I got my stuff out. It might be of interest to mentioned that I was wrestling my Jack Russell to stay in the car as he saw it too. Men I fear the day he'll want to take on a grizzly.

Anyhow, I wasn't very familiar with the region, so I might just do some hiking around there next summer to see what it really has to offer.

Now, while I was hunting, I heard a very weird call. At first I thought it was a frog, but it move way too much for that plus it ended with a chirp. I heard it twice in the rocky section of the mountain, and once in the woods. Never saw it. Any idea what kind bird that was? I'm saying bird, but I'm open to other suggestions. The comedians, you can take the "frog" out of the equation.

boston bar has always been great for me, alot of grouse there. but those buggers are clever as hell, as soon as you stop or step out of the truck, they will just quickly jump of the edge and into the thick stuff. seen more grouse in the evening than the morning. just wait for some nice weather they will be out.

Agreed, ravens make some different sounds and so do cougars for that matter. Vocal sounds from the big cats can vary quite a bit from low and high growls to chirps and whistles of different pitches. Maybe thats why your jack russell was extra squirrely, he could smell what you couldn't see. Or it was just another sasquatch:)
