I have noticed a lot of guys use electrician tape on the end of their barrels to keep the dirt and moisture out. Does this affect the shot in any way, and what about if they have muzzle brake on the end of the barrel, would taping the muzzle brake as well as the end of the barrel have any adverse affects.

It will have no effect on your accuracy. The tape often blows off the end never to be found.

The tape and the bullet never touch, the tape gets blown out before the bullet reaches it. So accuracy is never an issue. IMO

I have shot at the range with tape with a cold bore hits 1 1/2 " high at 100 right where I want it. I believe even of it did effect accuracy a little it is still shot better the dirty wet barrel from quad riding and hiking on the island

American military do it on their 'sniper' rifles. Im sure they wouldn't if it effected accuracy

what about the muzzel break part of the question though. I have used those finger condoms, the only prob is rust if you dont remove it at the end of the day

I have hunted with my barrel taped for 4 years. No problems on the accuracy front, but make sure to remove it at the end of the day as I have had to clean off some surface tarnish from leaving it on overnight. I have used electricians tape, black hockey tape, and duct tape with no ill effects. I have tried it at the range also and found no change in the POI from cold barrel taped or warm barrel taped.

Tape away, won't affect anything.

I've used small balloons for several years. No real reason except I threw a half dozen into my day pack after one of my boys birthdays and they've been doing the trick for me. By the way, for those who still are in the planning stages - plan better than I did; 2 kids birthdays in hunting season really screws up your trips:cry:

Do not put ear plugs or anything else in you barrel. Tape works just fine.

Super Matt is right, it will get blown off before the bullet exits the barrell.
I use a small piece of ordinary masking tape and take it off at the end of the day.

Got snow down a barrel once whitetail hunting in the Peace; lucky I had a bore snake! Now I always tape the muzzle.

I did that once with no tape and no snake/rod and a good hike from the truck. I unloaded the rifle, removed the bolt, and sucked the snow and water out the muzzle like a smokeless powder and lead flavoured slurpee, and kept on hunting. I usually remember the tape after that.:-D

I've been taping the muzzle of my hunting rifles for 40+ years, and the dozens of dead game animals would attest to the fact that accuracy is unaffected by this practice. The muzzle brake will not be hurt by taping it up either. Eagleye.

Under no circumstances would I put something in the barrel. Tape over the barrel yes. Ear plug in no way.

I always tape my barrel end on my hunting rifles,,,,:-|

when I line up on a critter, I take careful aim, squeeze the trigger gently,

when the gun fires,,,

I quickly reach forward !

and pull the tape off of the muzzel of my rifle,,,,,before the bullet exits the barrel:mrgreen:

One of those times when you don't want to get caught by another hunter - sitting against a tree with the rifle barrel in your mouth:-D

"Don't do it man, it's not worth it!!''

"???... I was only tryin to suck the snow out!!"
