Just wondering what is the best way to secure your quarters to a pack frame, rope, bungies or straps

I keep a ball of dacron twine and about 5 caribiners on my pack frame, of course I've yet to need to use it so I'm not sure what shortcomings this setup may have.

I used all three at times. I presume you are using a frame with no bag. If you can attach adjustable straps they are easiest. I use an eberlestock internal frame these days. You drop the meat in the mesh holder and cinch the straps, simple. If your quarter is too big, you can strap it outside the bag. I think you have it figured out using all three.

Can bungees ever be drawn tight enough to hold secure ?
Strap have plastic parts
Rope is always just the right length

Debone and put meat inside the pack! The only way to go!

The cinch straps I use only have metal parts.

Keep your bungees on the quad.

I packed one half dozen elk quarters out this fall off of a pretty steep mountain side on a pack frame.

This is what I found worked.

Quarter your critter at the 2nd or 3rd floating rib. tuck the quarters in a game bag.

Use 1/4" or 3/16" cord. Nothing special required, just a Canadian Tire 100" roll. Lash the quarter securely to your frame.

Pick up frame, sweat profusely while you pack your quarter out. Repeat as required.

I do not think a bungie cord would be anywhere near secure enough.

Or as one poster stated, bone it out and stuff the meat in a bag.

Rope, and get it tight!

You want that load glued to your pack. Anytime you get a heavy load shifting on your pack, the chances of going for a tumble get pretty high, plus it make packing more uncomfortable than it should be.

Variation on a diamond hitch. Nothing moves if it's done up right!

I have used a 4inch bungee on the rope, to keep it tight after its all tied up.

I like to lay the meat on the frame, then use a whole roll of duct tape to wrap around it.

Binders twine if no game bags just go hair on.
