The Hound suggested a different route today. It paid off. This was the 27th deer I saw by 9:30.

Some of you might remember the buck below from 2007 - I dropped today's buck within 20 yards of where I got the 2007 buck ( thread (http://www.huntingbc.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=16308&) ). Smart dog.

Nice going. good to see your seeing them. Dad went back to where I was hunting for a couple of days and didn't see a deer.

Excellent!

I often let the pooch decide which direction to go...they have great instincts! Curious though...how does yours let you know which way to go from inside the cab of the truck?

;) :D

I saw a guy up by Louis Creek with a big malamute hunting for mule deer and he said the dog would point out where the deer was, it looked like a wolf. The fella dropped a four point and was dragging it out.

....are you required to have the dog on a leash if hunting deer with one? I seem to recall it saying s/t to that effect in the regs. I would never bring my dog in any case - woukd scare off all the deer and ruin my serenity!

The fella up by Louis Creek let his dog run free but had him trained to obey commands, I was surprised and I said jokingly, aren't you scared someone might think it was a wolf? He was a local and said he hunts here all the time and so far was ok. I guess but I would be a little worried about the hound getting mistaken for a wild dog like either a yote or a killer wolf.

These guys only wish they had such a good huntin' dog.

Sometimes I will take him on walks for deer, with his leash tied to my belt. There are, however, too many good things to stop and smell and piss on, so it's more like doggie exercise than real hunting. He's good at spotting deer from the truck though!

A dog is good to take with you if your afraid of the bush.

The hound is always "right"?? That hound should be "left"........left in the bush with the other mangy yotes:wink:.

Nice work! Sounds like you should just camp on that spot in future yrs instead of burning so mcuh fuel.

X amount of idling time, X amount of k's, x amount of TH go juice ......
Then he gets to shoot

Actually, I used the Sako. It's always a toss-up which Euro-gun to choose for the day's hunt.

That's the exit hole from a quartering away shot. Not much damage (grapefruit-sized bloodshot) because I use quality factory ammo.

Congrats on great eats! More impressive is the amount of hunting / country your dog gets to see and tramp through with you!
