Can anybody give me any info about where the main elk herd is between ft. st. John and Dawson creek? I'm thinking about trying for an Elk up that way this year but I know absolutely nothing about the area other than there are Elk around the area. I hear that most of the area is private property so I'm hoping to get permission to hunt farmland so I would like to find the area with the most elk and start there. Send me a PM if you can help me out. Thanks

Sniper,

Get a landowners map and then get out into the area and look for sign. When you find it refer to your landowners map and phone the landowner who has the land.

You may get lucky... But I can tell you that acquiring private land in region 7 to hunt if your not local to the area is getting tougher and tougher.

Happy Hunting!

I am not sure, My dad has them for the entire FSJ area. (he lives there) I am pretty sure he got it from a government office there.

I'll ask him.

Happy Hunting!

The forestry office has maps with the land owners name on lands bordering crown land.

There is 2 maps available for purchase one is Peace River South, the other Peace River North. They can be bought from Waberski Darrow in Fort St John. The maps are extremly detailed and show all private land and the legal owners name. This survey company has developed these maps for use in the oilpatch and although they are excellent for looking up who owns land they are expensive at 175.00 each.

Husky,

I understand what you're saying but the map Willy442 is talking about is used by the oilfield companies. Not only is it detailed but it has detailed descriptions of the land and who owns it etc...

It's also a very large map.

Happy Hunting!
