I'd like to do a poll on this but don't know how.
Anyway, for those of you who road hunt with their quads half of the time and still hunt(sit and wait) in the bush the other half of the day, which instance did you see and/or harvest the most animal? When you are road hunting in a quad or in the bush? I'd like to know specifically the quad hunters because most of these quads, you can hear them a mile away when they are coming but the animals don't seem to get bothered and jump right in your way while passing by. Thanks for your input!

If you hunt in an area that sees a lot of recreational atv use, you are right , they arnt as spooky. "They" being smaller and younger specimens. Animals dont get very big when they stand around. I have tried stand hunting but within 5 minutes I spot a mountain and off I go. Have fun.

Most of my game has been taken at under 150 yards.

I like to use my quad to get where I am going but I think you have to be super lucky to see any kind of quality game on a quad. Sure you can shoot a lot of does and small bucks and maybe the odd moose but for the most part you would have to be lucky to get a trophy to hang on your wall.

I haven't had a lot of time lately to go hunting so when I do I drive my quad to a spot I set up a couple camera's and a tree stand and I sit for a while. I really enjoy sitting in a tree stand and listening for sounds. Thats what makes it fun for me. Trying to call them in.

Good luck

I have the most success with calling game to me hands down, and the least driving around. Still hunting (walking slowly through the bush) particularly for deer also pays off. As Jonas111 said, you might luck out and come across something when you're quadding but the quality isn't there. Calling is by far the most successful....and the most exciting.

There's an "n" and no "d" in that word in the title, Cavey!:-D

Whitetails-every time but one I saw sitting on the ground of in a tree.

Mulies-a mix of techniques but mostly still-hunting/calling

Dad shot a three point at 150 this year. While his black lab pup Piper was waiting patiently in the recycling bin bolted to the back rack of the quad. She had had hoped it was a bird.

Deer stood there, Piper looked at it dad shot it. Not a big three by any means. I am with the guys that say you wont find a mossy horn on a quad. But if your more into cruzing with the pooch, shooting birds and looking at terrain. There could be a deer out there for you to.

All of the deer that I've shot have been taken at a maximum distance of 43 yards. I try to limit my shots to less than 35 or 40 yards. I bowhunt, of course...

Haha funny thing but I tell you, I was sitting about half a kilometer off the fsr in the bush one time for about 2 hrs then I heared this quad coming, suddenly he slowed down to idling then before you know.... kaboom!

I met him later on (he was heading to the same spot) and he said "oh yeah that was a 3 point" nothing I can say at that time except to congratulate him, scratched my head and said our good byes.
I should try the calling next time eh?

I don't have anything really big on the wall yet. But so far I'm running about fifty fifty for stalking through the bush and on trails, and spotting from the truck.

We used to hunt that way, back on the prairie's during the mulie rut, pretty much every weekend. Only difference was we had a 6-pack on the seat with us.

Most of my deer by percentage have been taken while heading form one area to another in my truck, so...road hunting. But my best hunting is by far still hunting. I see alot more when I still hunt. Try it...it works.

Most anilals withing 100 yards of the road.

100 yards from the road ???, that is TOO FAR!

a moose or an elk is best toppled on a hillside and rolled into the box of your pic-up truck!, any more work than that is unnecessary and tiring!

OOPS!! I guess I should have wiped the sleep from my eyes before I answered! To be honest it's about 50:50 for me but I would have to say the biggest species have always been on foot.

I do both, I just can't keep still after 3 hours seeing nothing but a noisy chipmunk... or cattles.
Then after sitting for 3 hrs I get anxious that maybe, just maybe, there's one on the other slash where I saw a doe a day before... so now the road hunt begins. This only happen after 9am though.

Yeah, either I see some gut pile on the side of the fsr where I hunt or a hunter gutting an animal. I begin to wonder, that's why I posted this question.
