So, Ive been saving up all my hunting stories from this year and was going to do one big post at the end of the season, but i thought id give you guys a bit of a teaser as to how my season is going so far. Work is permitting me to hunt whenever i want so i cant complain. The GF took a shift off from the hospital so she has 3 weeks off. We have been pounding the bush all through 8-11 and 3-12 for the past 2 weeks hunting moose and mulies so today, we decided to go fishing at one of our favorite lakes. We get there around 830 and the first thing i do is let out a long series of cow calls. Then, everytime we did one full tour of the lake, id let out some more cow calls and the odd bull grunt. About 4 hours into it, we hear some branches breaking and a cow call. So i bull grunt and then i get a bull grunt back. Being spike-fork season, we have a rifle in the boat just in case. Anywho, we exchange some more calls and i work the boat closer into shore. We get to within 50 yards of the shore and i can make out the cow but no bull. So, closer in we go. I beach the boat and tell the GF to grab the paddle and rake the shat out of the nearest willow bush. Well now its on!! The bull was behind the cow and on the other side of lump of dirt that the cow was standing on. He then began to go to town on a 8" round lodgepoll all while grunting. So, of course me being me, i grab the camera and the paddle and head into the bush. We exchanged some grunts and a lot of tree raking. By this time, the GF makes her way up behind me and i hand her the camera so she can film and i can be a moose. I have a bunch of video but its hard to hold a camera and rake the trees with a full boat oar. Anywho, heres the best video. He was maybe 15 yards away.
