I know that the total bag limits in BC for deer is tree.

Can I then shoot and bag tree white-tails in different hunting regions ?

Help appriciated. I am still suffering from Elkoholism :)

Yes, you can take 3 as long as you don't exceed the Regional Limit...

For example, I can take a doe and buck in reg 3 and then take a doe in reg 8... or I can take a doe in 3, a doe in 8 and a doe in 4... etc etc

never heard of a tree white-tail

The elusive Tree whitetail... very hard to find as they hide in the forest canopy. Good luck!

I personally wouldn't shoot any tree whitetail. I don't see anything in the regs saying you can or can't shoot tree whitetail, so I'll err on the side of caution and shoot zero.

That's interesting, but also what I thought, but I was told by Len at the Vernon Outdoor Store that the provincial bag limit for white tail does is 1. I can't find anything in the regs to support that though.

This is only my opinion. If you see a Whitetail in a tree, shoot it. We don,t want them breeding and passing on that devious trait. It is hard enough to get a big buck without having to look up in the trees.

see page 16 of the synopsis, provincial bag limit is 3 (combined wt and mule)

That was how I read it as well, worries me though that he may be adding confusion to something that seems "fairly" straight forward to me. He's telling this to the general hunting public, I would think that the guy selling the tags over the counter, especially at a designated hunting and fishing store, would have a pretty solid handle on bag limits and such. Especially after a major change like adding does to the regular season. I'm sure that's what his customers assume as well. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to flame the guy either.

Thank you very much for clarifying the hunting regulations for me.

I will now go out and try to shoot and bag my third white-tail.

The first white-tail, a buck, was easy, since there was little of no hunter pressure in that area. The second, a white-tail doe, was a challenge, since that area was under a lots of hunter pressure, and the plentiful white-tails would, at the slightest sign of the two legged predators, spook off right away, giving you 2-3 seconds to react, and then you had to try to figure out when they would stop to take a look at you, or they would try to blend in inside the forrest, then bang !

They are everywhere you just have to pay attention. It's like anything, you just have to know what to look for.

They build their nests in hollowed out trees so look for hair around openings in hollowed out stumps and logs. Move quietly or you will spook them back inside the nest.

My white-tail hunting has always been much better than my spelling, and I like it in that order, than the other way around :)

See! I never look up.....that's been my problem all along. Dang-it!! Now I'm wondering how many times there's been one right there and I missed it because I was too lazy to look up.....

Although I'm sure many on here know the regulations inside and out, I wouldn't be asking the internet or the local retail sports shop for clarification on the Hunting Regulations. Go to the local MoE or phone them and get the facts from the people that are enforcing the regulations.

X2

snowhunter you really don't seem to get it with the posession limits do you? This is the 3rd, by my count, thread you've started since last season on this. The provincial bag limit is 3. It can be 3 MD, 3 WT or 3 BT's or a combination. You just can't exceed the regional bag limit for a species.

Len's on crack.

You can shoot 3 WT does provincially, for example one in R3, plus one in R4, plus one in R8.

Tree white-tails are hard as nails to kill. You have to shoot 'em right in the trunk.

Extremely hard animals to hunt, but the feeling you get after bagging one is treemendous.

We don't need and white tails in the trees, think, if they start breeding with cougars, they'll be the scariest animal ever, claws and jump of a cougar, antlers of a white tail, good thing it'll be easy to learn their routine.

That`s because too many spotted owls were getting nailed as a by-catch.
