Up visiting with my daughter and new grandson. I got a field layout blind at Mt. Vernon Wholesale Sports before we came up here so dug my old rag tag set of Canada decoys out from under the brant set and dragged them along. I've managed to tear myself away from the little guy twice so far for 2 nice shoots.

Ya, like we're gonna believe that! I thought you couldn't kill Canadas with anything less than 3 1/2" Black Cloud? Nice job, I've always wanted to hunt geese up there. So were they dropping on the road? K

If I was to pull the trigger on 31/2 inchers I'd end with ice bags on my shoulder. I made the mistake of trying to use up some old 3" on day 1 and it took the shoulder 4 days to recover.

Day 3---as good a day of waterfowling as I have ever had--shared with mule deer out beyond the decoys in the sunrise.

Great looking hide. That's how a laydown should look done up.

what laydown????

It's a Final Approach X-Lander. I initially chose the Pro-lander but out in the parking lot a I decided to try setting it up. It took so long and was such a struggle and when I factored in doing it in the dark and the cold and maybe the wind I scooted back inside and traded for the X-Lander---smaller profile (and thereby quicker to grass in), lighter, and a bit cheaper too. This one makes me feel like I'm right at home in my old punt.

Some more good days in the fields.

Day 4--1st day of snow and a scouting trip turned into a pretty good shoot.

Day 5--oops, forgot to take the camera out to the field so missed some great shots of a snowy afternoon filled with mallards--these birds are so fat its like plucking a feathered pound of butter.

Day 6--arrived afield too late today. Birds were flying as I was setting up and managed to get one out of the last flock of the afternoon flight after I got back from parking the truck across the field but no more flew until just before legal time. Interesting watching the birds come in out of the total whiteness of socked in sky, falling snow, and snow covered fields.
