I am just curious as to how much grizzly activity people have seen around the sparwood/fernie area? I'm new to the area and being from region 8-8 I haven't had much opportunity to see one of the awesome beasts though I would love to (preferably from a distance/truck LOL). Just wondering what my odds are going to be of seeing the great grizzly bear and what to expect. Looking forward to all the adventures ahead of me.

you WILL see grizz, maybe closer than you would like, :) be smart out there, especially up the bull river and with animals down.

shot a bull elk up the bull river 4 years ago on opening morning, quatered and packed it out 3km (no motorized zone). Co's later told us that of 10 elk left over night by guides/clients, 6 were claimed by grizz and that the particular area we were hunting was really bad and that most guys didn't hunt that area much because of grizz??? and here we were stapping bleeding chucks of meat to our backs and hiking out alone 3km!!

Road kill in the area gets dumped at the gravel pits along the hwy.

I saw quite a few road kills dumped at a gravel pit between Fernie and elko last year. North side of the highway.

I've had grizzlies chomping at my arse more than once in that area. Be aware, always.

Also, buy the biggest f'king gun you can carry!

I was fishing the Elk in July, drifting in my pontoon boat and watching a very large grizzly tear up some grass 20 yards from shore. I saw three more and I was not even in the bush for real.

Just remember that a gunshot is a dinner bell for a grizzly

I saw a couple around the morrisey area last year middle of oct just below the alpine. Spend enough time in the high country and you shall see them

I had one come through camp on a backpack trip 5 years ago, this one wasn't a biter though and we managed to run it off:-D Had my scope on it at 30 yards but he was smart and kept movin.

Keep your head up.
