This is my and dads first Canadian big game animal, and what an experience. i've been scouting and looking around since i got my core in 2006, but due to a lack of committed friends i've only been able to get out 2 or 3 times per season (sad face).
This year the old man decided to buy a rifle (he's had his CORE and PAL since 2006 also) and join me for a more serious hunt. He equipped himself with a nice Browning A-bolt stainless stalker in 30-06 and topped it off with a 3200 Elite.
We booked Friday and Tuesday off, giving us a nice 5 day weekend to hunt a mulie down. We hunted hard Friday and Saturday, and saw only does. Lots of sign, lots of tree rubs and droppings, but no chance to match what left either behind, which was a little frustrating....
On Sunday we agreed to check out another area, where i've also seen bucks. An area a little more open for better glassing and viewing. Showed up and within 30 minutes i was starting to think we had made a mistake. No sign whatsoever in this area, not even any does. Nothing. Just three cows that hadn't been rounded up yet lol.
thennnnnn .... "BOOOOM". Quick whip out the radio, "was that you???!?!??!" "was it you?!?!?!?" .... Damn thing crackles and breaks up in the hilly terrain, but i make out the words "dead" and "buck" lol. He tells me where he is and i hike over the hill top and down to the side he chose to hunt and sure enough the old man's sittin next to a nice 4x3 that he dropped with a single shot through the neck. 150 grains from the .30-06 into the spine and that's all she wrote.
here's two happy hunters after a successful and very enjoyable father-son hunt:

here's one with the successful hunter and his trophy: (btw, i really don't know what the branches on it are doing, all he said was that it was a "european thing" lol)

the draggin was tough as the bugger kept getting snagged up on sticks and branches so i cleared a path with the trusty STIHL and brought in the recovery vehicle:

Then the recovery vehicle became the hoist vehicle:

And you all know how the rest of the work goes.
Stuffing this deer in the back of a Jeep TJ wasn't easy but we made it work (yaay) We were pretty tired after the work was done and quite cramped for space in the Jeep that I passed on a two-point on the way out ... really wouldn't know where to stuff it at that point. I think i'll be back in a couple of weeks to bring him home!!
Enjoy the pics!
