birthday doe, broke in new boomstick

Went out today with my son who turned 5, seen lots of game and shot afew grouse, had bad weather this morning hunt. Picked up wife and younger son, he's 2, went for a mid day drive/offroadin trip, headed to are whitetail/elk spot, first pipeline crossing ran into a nice fat lone doe. Made about a 190yard shot(she was 182 when I hit her with range finder, ran and turned broadside) with the new savage .300wm, shooting HSM ammo loaded with berger vld's 185 gr. both lungs dropped her. hit 1 rib going in and took out 3 going out. had her in truck by 600 went to second elk spot and at last light we drove into small feild and seen 7 elk, little to late in the evening, had a good bull in scope but was just dusk enough I could'nt count points, even though its 3pt or better,( I am 90% sure he was a 6x5) if I can't count I don't shoot, will be back there for tomorrow evening. all in all it was a great day, got stuck but was able to rock it out, and my boy got in on a birthday deer, and of course broke in the new toy.
