Got these pics from a buddy. Hunters camped on the Macgregor River, east of PG earlier this week. Photos taken over a couple of days. I guess the river rose 2m overnight!!!! Haven't talked to him in person to get more details yet.

The other vechicles shown earlier are completely submerged here...the water finally dropped enough to get the vehicles towed out yesterday...ruined their day I'm sure.

Not to be too hard on the guys in the pics (I do feel bad for them), but luck didn't really have much to do with it.

I suspect these guys may have spent too much time in the concrete jungle and too little time near rivers.

That is a very extreme increase in water level, sucks though.

It is and I am not too sure why they weren't able to pull out before the water began lapping up against the tires...hoping to get some more details. My buddy was not one of the people camped with them, they were camped on the other side of the river and managed to stay dry.

Sure must have snowed in the mountains, and then with the rain lower down...............................Flood!! Mcgregors claim more vehicles!! Tough part of the world to play in, and work!! Can't take nothing for granted in the mountains!! Hard lesson learned for sure!! Moosin

That would be a suprise when you stepped out for a leak in the morning. Sucks for sure!

I shouldn't be laughing, but that's funny. :-D

I remember drifting the upper Kispiox river during late flood stage. Was a little hungover and stopped around lunchtime for a nap. I woke up to water lapping at my toes and my canoe 40 ft downstream (I was smart enough at least to tie it:wink:)

Gotta watch those mountain streams!

There is a reason they call this the wet coast. I've seen 50' cedars c/w root ball fly down island rivers (you could walk across these rivers in August and not get your calves wet). Good thing no trees "swept" through their camp.

thats nasty hope everybody was ok. rule number one on the island always find higher ground to camp on, dont camp any place close to the river or lakes edge. you might wake up with wet shorts, it happens quick.

Luck has nothing to do with it. It is like these idiots who build a house on a flood plain and then are surprised when the house is half underwater, and then cry to the government to bail them out. Words of wisdom- DON'T BE A MORON.

Hopefully no one was hurt, but yeah its kinda irresponsible - especially this time of the year.

I got caught in that slide at the bottom of Heather Mtn/east Rogers Pass this last week and just with that amount of rain it was amazing to watch how quickly the water rose in that area. In a matter of a few hours the local rivers got pretty crazy in a bit hurry. Hopefully they've learned their lesson and will think twice next time before trying that again. LR

This is a good lesson for all of us. I do not believe that I would ever camp on a gravel bar no matter what the weather, expected rainfall, or river level. I have lived in the high desert in southern Cal. and have seen flash floods in dry river bottoms without a cloud in the sky but that was not the case 50 miles or so upstream.
