not something to boast about, the shooting of cub in the face

BCBRAD

no boast, one would think a trained professional could dispatch an animal a bit more humanely , especially at 10 paces.

The head shot didn't kill it?

BCBRAD
09-30-2010, 05:33 PM
not right away, it was face not a brain shot, me thinks CO may of had feces in his pants............may of helped with shot placement

What's inhumane about a head shot? Granted, it doesn't optic well to many but as far as being humane, I think it's probably the quickest dispatch to choose from unless it's botched and he blew off a jaw and had to follow up.

I seen a cop once shoot a deer 6 times to kill it. I tried to offer shot placement advice and was advised to step back as it was a wild animal he was dealing with and it could hurt me. I think the truck that hit it took away any chance of an attack.:-D

Yeah well at 10 paces he should have been a little better with the shot placement to ensure a one shot kill. I see what you mean now.

So why even say it in the first place? I'm sure the CO didn't like dispatching the bear, something he had to do in the course of his duties and now you are calling him out? Way to go hero....by the way... where is work ...Tim Hortons?

Yesterday morning north of PG there was a nice mid 40's bull hit. Trucked was a mess and one antler broke off. There was 2 cops there and can only imagine the race to get there to finish it. It is tough from thier standpoint because they are liable for our safety and have to do what they have been taught, It just becomes frustrating from a sportmans standpoint to watch someone who is a little under educated when it comes to the humane dispatch of animals.

Working at TH is honest work, got a problem with that morris?

morris

No, just saying unless it was in front of a drivethru full of school kids whats the big deal?

BCBRAD
09-30-2010, 05:53 PM
are you sayin' that a school bus full of kids should not witness a poorly dispatched animal? i figure poor shot placement is because the CO went premature.....just be for he yanked the trigger

Myself I like to see an animal put out quick, It is not very entertaining to watch any animal take a shotgun blast to the face. Not a very quick death by any meens.

my sentiments exactly m-chaser, that's why we prcatice shooting skills and use the best equipment possible for the surest quickest results.

I love when someone stands outside the actual shoes of who they are criticizing and then puts it on the Inter web.........

You must be pretty bored to post stuff like this...or you are looking to pick on someone?

Who really cares where it was shot, the sad part it was shot, probably because someone thinks that their garbage does not stink........

Cheers

ok then lets all be silent, what ever we see or experience we should keep it to our selves. one of my work mates was traumatized by this event as he has never seen the death of an animal before.

I'm sure he'll get over it, my kids did when they first witnessed death. Mind you, the smell of it cooking sure helped. The first time my kids saw a dead animal, I was standing on it's wings pulling it in half, could see them going white through the tinted windows of the van. Second time it was a white rabbit with a hole in it's neck the size of a pepsi can. They are still completely functional (for children any way, LOL) and bear no emotional scars.

BCBrad, have you ever used more than 1 bullet on a animal?

Maybe you should join up and show them how to do their jobs flawlessly. Sometimes things just don't go as planned.

humane? wow. he was there to kill it. so what if he shoots it in the face, it's dead isn't it? do you think the bear is upset about his aim? get a grip.

I heard about this one too, maybe you should tell them the whole story. Not just your version.

Apparently the bear was running around under the rail cars where the duys chased it out of the building. When the CO showed up it was in a pipe of some sort and when he went to look at it, it charged out from the tube at him. When he got the bear out it again tried to lunge at him, then he moved it down the side of the building, when he turned the corner the bear was coming at him. He shot it and it died.

Why use buckshot? travels less and is safer for the circumstances, you use a .50 cal piece of lead and see how far it travels.

These guys have enough on their plates to deal with, and none of them enjoy killing bears everyday. I'm sure if he saw this thread he would have a long discussion with you!

While our friends in blue have a love hate kinda thing with us hunters. This tale is only one side of the story. I'm sure the CO in question didn't enjoy doing his job that day, anymore than the OP enjoyed watching it.

A hunters we of all people know things don't always go as planned.

Thread locked.
