After the exciting sheep adventure of SSS and I in August, I turned my attention in the search of ghost bulls.

We managed to get into some bulls calling last Thursday evening and we knew we had to return in the morning. With high optimism, we returned at first light and managed to pull in this bull at 9 am.

Used the gutless method to quarter the elk as it was a pretty good pack out on pack frames. The Barney performed suberbly once again.

I can't complain but I'm still an advocate of putting BC on a province wide 3 point regulation for elk. I'd have taken a 3 or 4 pt bull just as quick as I did this one but with a 6 pt season in place, one doesn't have much choice.

Nice work Greg. I figured you might get one on the ground pretty soon. I, on the other hand, have been wading thru some five points, waiting for one with that elusive 6th point.
Congratulations tho, you are having a damn fine year so far.

You're kidding, right? so what happens when you shoot those 3 or 4 points for a couple of seasons? there are more eagerly waiting to be shot?

As a sheep hunter I thought you would respect the challenge of a big bull hunt...

Thanks guys! There is a lots of great success being had by many hunters out there this year and hats off to all.

Success is being able to be afield hunting and having a good time. Harvested game is a bonus.

Grin. Just think how challenging those 6 pt bulls will be after they've been hunted / pressured since they were 3 pointers should hunters choose to search for a mature specimen.

I think you've hunted very hard this year, why don't you treat yourself and take the rest of the season off:wink:. Not to mention burning up all your

luck points. No need to hunt mulies this year all you'll see is spike bucks with no luck points saved up.

Beautiful elk, congrats

He's just jealous that you got a 6-point and he has been skunked so far this year...and he lives in a 3-point area .

By the way I hope you fail miserably on your moose hunt...or end up with a calf or 2-point on that bull moose LEH :-D.

Very nice Greg! I agree on the 3 point issue. Been up the Gathto a lot and there used to be lots of 6 points when I first began going. Now the genetic 5's are the herd bulls making more genetic 5's. It needs to be corrected. Your bull looks very tasty! Well done!

We hunted 3 points or greater for 30 years with twice as many hunters in BC. There were always more bulls the next year, eagerly waiting to be shot.

3 point elk seasons aren't a conservation issue, but rather a social issue. All that is needed is a sperm supply for successful elk procreation.
