Youth first moose.

Was out yesterday with the wife and a father son looking for elk and moose, me and the wife covered alot of bush walking and seen very little, 1 cow moose and 4 buls none of wich were shooters. Al and Chance decided to cover some ground on there quad, it was a windy day very good for bush walking and quading, they seen some elk at a distance but were unable to get close, they also seen 2 bull moose and 2 cows, no calf for Chance. We met for a mid day lunch and talked about what to do for the rest of the day, same plan till the evening when we would meet up and head into some licks. Me and the wife dorve the explorer deep into the bush to the back of some farm land and were getting ready foe some more walking, felt the phone vibrate in my pocket and it was Al...Chance got his calf is all I could hear right on the road. drove out to meet them. Chance was on quad in front of his dad who was driving there truck and a calf made a break across field right at him. He waited until Al made sure it was a calf, boom, 1 shot from his 30-06 to the lungs, calf went about 25 yards in bush and pilled up. Nice little calf should make for some good eats. Congrats to Chance on his first moose!

And speaking of Chance brought this to mind.
Back in the late '60s, there was an Indian standing on the corner of Howe and Burrard in downtown Vancouver. Every time a nice looking young lady would walk past, he would say to her, "Chance?" This went on for awhile, finally getting the better of me, I walked up to him and said, "
Why do you say 'Chance" when you should say 'How'?" He looked me in the eye and said, "Me know how, me only want chance".
