Well back from my first crack at my LEH goat draw. Going in semi-blind and having never hunted goats in the past I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. I must say, I have a new found respect for you high mountain guys. The hike in was gruelling to say the least. Straight up for several hours through the thickest brush I have ever tried to pass. Once up top things were much better, but getting there was a beast.

The weather could not have been better. I think in the end it was too good. Once we reached our destination it was immediately apparent that goats indeed lived here. Sign everywhere but no animals in sight. Day one would pass with some great views but no succes.

Day 2 weather was just the same. Hot and sunny. In the end I think the goats stayed super high and inside the timber line. The bugs were bad and it was very warm. Just before our hunt, a hunters worst nightmare struck. I was loading my rifle in camp and noticed that a spill I had taken the day before had snapped a screw on my front scope mount. Rifle rendered useless. Out we came.

With the hunt on hold, we decided to take advantage of a little late season fishing. I know this is a hunting website but I thought you guys would appreciate a few pics from THE BEST fishing trip of my life. Coho and Chinook salmon in numbers like ive never caught. It was fantastic. Thanks to my brother in law Skeena Shooter for the great trip. We will be trying for goats again around christmas. A great time and experience despite no animal harvest. But....its not over yet.

Ha, ha!! I've hunted for goats in spots like that before. Good on you for trying it out. If you stick with it you will learn to recognise easier ways/routes to get up top. You will also learn that there are easier places to hunt for the mighty goat!! Those hills below looked nasty!!

The scenery for both the hunting and fishing look rather familiar . . . fished hard in that spot for many years and even pulled a dandy grizz outta there!

The December goat hunt may make your September goat hunt look easy  . . . gotta feeling the snow levels could be deep this year. Hope you do connect on a beauty winter billy!

Thanks for your help BC. Ya we glassed the bowl from the road below on Wednesday and saw 8 goats including 3 billies sitting exactly where we had been. It was clouding over as you suggested and they were right bacck in the cliffs. Did some scouting further down the C.R. Road and there are some cliffs with good potential quite close to the river further down. We will hope to get lucky and spot one along there. Thanks again
