First time poster and new member, however i have been enjoying storys and photos on here for a couple of years now.

Anyways.... I was taking my buddy up to one of my fovorite area's. We got to the spot at first light and started hiking to the top of the bluffs to watch the timber line ect.. I kept my buddy close by as he is a new hunter and i wanted to show him a couple pointers and give him the first shot if we seen anything..

We were sitting for a while and it was pi##ing out and I spotted 2 couple decent bucks. One 3x4 and one 4x4! The 3x4 was actully not that special but in any sence still legal. I told my buddy to take the top one (the 4x4) and then they went down a little gully.. we sat and waited for about 15 minutes and my buddy was starting to get impatient and wanted to try to get closer. I told him that if they moved out of there we would see them. Another 15min went by and i seen the larger buck come out, i looked over to tell him to take him when he is ready but he was gone! He decided to get a higher vantige point to see if he could see into the gully! During this time the buck stood broad side for about 2minutes and put is nose in the air gave a blow and they were gone! I could have taken the show but it is to early in the season for a so so buck. (It did teach my buddy a lesson to be patient!)

anyways we hiked some more cuts and the deer count was into the 20's by now and a good sign with almost 1/2 being bucks (mostly smaller but still)

It was about 1pm and we decided to do one more ridge line. As soon as we got to the top we looked onto the tree line below and seen deer at about 300 yards. My buddy was using my bino's so i scoped down. 1,2,3,4 does not to exciting then up pops the head of a large rack! I did a quick check to make sure he was legal (did not take long) i looked over to my buddy and said shoot! I heard two cracks from his 300 and he was on the run. I took 1 shot and missed. By this time they went right up the bank into the timbers, i was glassing in there for about 30 seconds and spotted him some how? He was about 25 yards into the timbers but somhow i had a shot! I went on my belly and squeezed one off. I was pretty certine I hit him but not 100% We hiked down the bluffs did some zig zagging but no sign and it was still raining hard. I decided to do one more circle and got to the top and looked up and he was laying there kinda into a tree well! We were pretty pumped to say the least and the rack was larger than i thought! I walked over to him and gave him one more shot into the heart as the first shot was a bit low.

I wanted to get my buddy his first buck, but after the 2 shots missed I did not want him to take off and i happend to be lucky enough to tag him!

Now the work began and we were about 1km from the skider road down the side of a bluff so it was a good work out, but well worth it.

I have not really measured him yet but it is a decent deer. I am doing another skull mount.

The spread that i measured off of the main points is about 26-1/2"

You don't measure from the smaller points that stick out the side right?

Also some of the points are fairly short, but if i measured right they do project out 2.5cm making it a 7x7 plus brows.

Thats my story, hope you enjoyed..

Welcome and great buck. Yes the greatest outside spread is just that, as if it was between 2 bookends.

170 gross non typ 155 net typical frame .. 3 and a half year old is my personal guess from the photo.
Jelly ( Instant Semi-Pro Guesstimation ) True readings .. Typical frame score net 155 maximum ... just the facts mam .. book em Gleneden -- Fly Hills .. MU 3-26 .. Bolean roads .. for some toads ..
A little weak on the back tines .. nice mule .. slack the haul back pattywack .. recommend a euro style mount ..

Thanks for your guestimation Jelvis. Gleneden and flyhills are in the background of the photo, but that is from my house not where i got him. 3-26 is correct though.

Keep up the rhymes man!
