I'm contemplating hunting this area this fall. We're looking for four point mule deer and have two possible time slots to go mid-october and mid november. When would be a better time to go, do the deer migrate by mid november, and which direction do they head. Anything else useful to know about this area would be appreciated.

I believe the season is closed from the 10th-20th of november for 4 points.

if you haven't had much luck why would you return? Goto clearwater, I hear they have lots of big bucks. Your in moose country there, you just gotta go a little bit further or shorter for the mulies.

I often hunt for the big mule deer just over the hill near Douglas Lake property. Most years, I don't get a big one until late November-Early December. October is always my worst month, possibly partly due to the increased hunting pressure from all the guys looking for the mighty ellusive Immy Moose. There are also lots of guys out in October due to the "Any Buck" season.
My vote is for you to go in November - definately.
The big boys get dumber during the rut, and travel even more when there are only a few does left still in heat. IMO!!

Go November. There will be less hunters and some snow then.

The season has not had good snow for the last 3 years. Lots of hunters now but if you are going go late try to get a good snow fall 1 foot or more.
