We traveled for 2 days. This was my buddy's first moose hunt. We set up the wall tent and the rest of camp until 4pm sunday. Then both of us hopped on my quad and went for a ride to get familiar with the area. We saw some nice bull tracks 4km from camp, also some white tail does, coyote and some grizz tracks. I was pointing out all the moose sign I could. We decided to go back to were we saw the whities and see if there was a buck in there thinking this would be a good start for the first evening. About 400yards from the whities close to were we saw the bull tracks we are cruising down the road. I have my left hand up blocking the sleet from my eye's. All of a sudden buddy smacks my back. I drop my hand and see 2 big paddles sticking up out of the brush inthe in the muskeg about 75yards away. I stop the quad. Up with the bino's and start counting. I see 2 on his right, then I see 4 on his left brow. Off the quad, grab the rifle and buddy is telling me to shoot him. He now takes 5 steps towards the timber and stops facing away from us. I raise the gun and cant hold the cross hairs straight on the back of his head. Mean while all i can hear is shoot him, shoot him!!! The bull decides to give us one more look and turns broad side. He would have walked had he not turned. I sent a 165gr tsx from my 300wsm into his left arm pit and through the lungs into the next shoulder. He hunched up good so I new I hit him hard. He took 10 steps to the timber. Buddy yells to shoot again but all I see is moose a@$. Im sure he's hit good. Then he stops in the brush and I can just see him go down and I hear him crash. Buddy thinks he is running away and but I now I saw him go down.

We walk across the muskeg and up to the timber. There is a trail there with a wallow about 10yards in. I can see up the trail and don't see the moose. I swear he went down. 1 more step and there to the left he lays just behind some brush. One more through the head to finish him and the fun began. Lots of high 5's and congrats.

We hunted for 3 hr's. I shot him at 7pm.
We went back and grabbed the truck and trailer. We dragged him out using the winch on the quad with the quad anchored to the truck and had him back at camp around midnight. There was already a meat pole up that had 2 beams. We added some more rope to help strengthen it. We tried to hang him and just as the frt shoulders started to come up the poles gave with a loud crack. We found a large steel bar in camp and hung it with rope. Then rapped chain around it and the tree's and got the moose up. We skinned it and went to sleep a 4am. That was a 23hr day.

The next day we de-boned except for the 4 legs and prepped the meat for travel. I did not want to hang around sleeping in a wall tent with meat in camp in Grizz country. The next day we packed up camp and hit the road again.
It was a quick trip and a absolute gift.

Thanks to my buddy because it could not have been done with out him and also to all that helped prep us for this trip.

Sorry. But to be honest....I hate stories like this.

Why ?

Because it happens to everyone but me. :icon_frow

I am just jealous, and Im not going to try and hide it. :?

But that is a awesome bull that anyone would love to take. Congratulations.

Next time please put in a bigger effort. Okay ?

Nice looking moose guys. A bit to much for that pole it looks like. A guy I used to work with tells a story of winching a moose up and the tree broke at the base. And fell on the truck. So I guess things can always be worse.

This was a 165gr TSX that now weights 163grs. It entered by the left arm pit and was found in the right shoulder.
