So I would like to start this off i would like to send out a huge thanks to Jamie from pink mountain Hotel. I had been talking with Jamie and wanted to plan a elk trip together. Jamie ended up having to work all weekend , but was very welcoming for me to come and speand the weekend up hunting. He told me he knew where some elk were hanging out and if we met up on friday afternoon he would show me a few spots.

So that where it started. I drove down friday afternoon and met up with jamie. It was about 6 o clock so we geared up and rushed out the door. We drove to where he figured would be a good spot to walk in in the morning. We started up the trail and right away were seeing lots of fresh sign and beds. After about 45 mins of walking we figured it would be a good idea to do a few calls to see if anything would answer before dark. Jamie let out a bugle as i was doing all sorts of cow chirps and estrous calls. after a few mins we heard a elk bugle off in the distance. Now knowing there was a bull in there area i was pumped for the next morning. Well that wasnt happening.
We heard the bull bugle again and he has closed the distance by half. He was coming in and he was comibng in fast. We had a cow elk come in from behind us and just about ran us over.
The bull was now down below us and let out a few hair raising bugles. It was all coming together wayyyyy to fast.
"there he is" jamie said. Hes a good bull. with the light fading fast and the heart beating even faster i lined up the cross hairs and let fire. The elk dropped right in his tracks. It wasnt the most desirable shot placement but it got the job done and a beauty bull on the ground.
I may be leaving out a few details on the hunt but this is a quick version.
The work began. We headed back to jamies place to get the quad and headed back to drag the elk out. We had it gutted and in the back of the truck in time for a few beers and off to bed. I then speant the next day skinning and quartering. The body of theelk was quite small but he will be some good eats.
The service and hospitality of pink mountain hotel is top notch. I hope to have many more hunts with jamie and his wife judy.
thanks again.

and now for the pics

well that's what i thought, what better way to start a friendship off then to meet and bullshit for 30 min on the drive and then hike and shoot this bull, i have chased this bull for a week and have had in my cross-hairs on him a couple times but things didn't work out do to wind change ... not a good shot.... or coyotes:-? but with starting to work again and not having the time i would PAY IT FORWARD.. sorry that was for Dana:mrgreen:.

this was a awesome hunt and it was great hunting with Scott, wish i didn't have to work cuz we would of went and got another one the next day.... i do have another spot with maybe a bigger one:wink: .. if i don't get him this year i will take Judy for her first animal i nice fat cow elk and we will be happy with that!!

CONGATS SCOTT HE IS A AWESOME BULL just wish we could of got a pic with both of us ...next time CHEERS JAMIE

Good to hear. We're heading north tomorrow for some horseback elk hunting. Can't wait for fresh tenderloin. I think this year we may need some elk ribs over the fire too.

This will seem like a long lost dream when you get one down in some canyon/swamp/blowdown pit where you think it may just be easier to start a fire and start eatin :mrgreen:

I've been on a couple where it ends up being about an 18 hour day, door to door at the house:cry::cry:
